SANDUSKY -- The Magnum roller coaster at Cedar Point Amusement Park was shut down Saturday after a minor accident.
Cedar Point officials say one of the coaster's trains was ending its ride, when it rolled into a stopped train at the loading station.

Three people were taken to the first aid center.
Two were treated and released. The third passenger was transported to an area hospital for an asthma condition.

The Magnum is now shut down and will remain shut down until officials complete and investigation.

Well on the positive side cedar point almost never has crashes on any of there rides. Its unavoidable even with a super park like cedar point but at least it was minor.
Trim breaks are your enemy, retracking/smoothing is your friend. I miss b&m floored sit downs. coaster count=39

That's the first accident I've ever heard of at CP. At least it was minor though.

Yeah that certainly killed some Maverick opening-day joy... Oh well.

It's a little early to speculate, but it was certainly raining at CP all morning. I'm not sure if friction brakes work worse in wet conditions, but, if so, I bet it's simply rain decreasing the effectiveness of the brakes and allowing the train to slip off the block. Anyways it's nothing major to worry about.

Edit: Spelling.

There was an accident a couple years ago on "White Water Landing" where 2 cars collided.
And...
I dont remember when but when the metal shavings off Dragsters launch cable hit the train of passengers...

Did anyone else notice that no park has competed a day with 17 operating coasters? Magic Mountain has had 17 coasters but flashback is SBO and Cedar Point opened Maverick today but the closed Magnum

Magnum is also over 18 years old. I know CP takes good care of their rides, but that is a long time for a hyper coaster to be opperating.

Well at least it was the transfer brakes or some system associated with them failed rather than the safety brakes at the end of the ride that slow the train down to such an extent.

Magnum is such a great ride. Before Maverick, it was the only ride with proper airtime.

Interesting, I had friends there and no one mentioned it being down. And yes, there were spurts of torrential rain yesterday.

Mhm, Magnum was an excellent ride for airtime and I know this accident may not hold it back for too long, but I'm still worried about it...

I'm sure it'll be fine. It's one of my favourites at CP, and like Real said, the only ride there with lots of real air until Maverick.

Haha... No, I guess I was a little stong on AIM the other day. When I said "hate", I guess I really didn't mean it. I've had a bad experience on it, that doesn't mean I hate it nor is it a bad ride. This was bound to happen, but I'm glad it wasn't on my baby Millennium Force [:D][lol][lol]

^Astute observation captain obvious. (Those have already been mentioned :P)

Oh yeah, I've got an astute observation here: Magnum has been re-opened as of Sunday.

Did you watch the video clip? Boy, it's apparent how important CP is to the local economy. The clip began with a "commercial" for Maverick. Then a brief mention of the accident on Magnum, but downplayed as if it were nothing major (which is true), then followed up by the reporter mentioning Maverick again and commenting "I saw a lot of happy park goers today."

Sheesh. When Astroworld had a power failure for a few minutes and some folks were stuck in the emergency brake on Tx Tornado for awhile, it freaking made the NATIONAL NEWS. A buddy of mine from NYC called, wanting to know if I had been on the ride at the time, and was I OK?

Why? Astroworld isn't (err... wasn't) responsible for the major chunk of the Houston economy. No need to play nice.
My body isn't a temple. It's an amusement park.

When Millennium Force just opened, I thought it was called Magnum XL-200. [:)]

Just thought I would share that unusually interesting fact. [:)]

My aunt mixes them up. She's been to more parks and ridden more coasters than I but she still calls Millennium Force Magnum Force.
