You can do that in the editor. I don't think it's worth him or his friend spending so much time on that one feature if it'll save you approximately 30 seconds to a minute. Just use wood supports until you finalize the track. He already said that they're not trying to tackle wooden supports, so you asking for something that'd take you little to no effort to do implies that you're not considerate of the time it takes to write such a program.

Yeah, we have a basic version working which supports the track. The only two things we need to figure out before we carry on is the formula for the banking and making sure the supports are of equal distance apart from each other.

I say you work on this for another 9 months, and then be all "April Fools!"

Nope, not any April Fools with that! Just a severe misconception (so it seems) in handling the job. While we do read above:

"The only two things we need to figure out..." Ahemmm: "only"???

it better had been stated as:

"The two *crucial* things we still *badly* need to figure out...

I see this project failing for a very simple reason: It's entirely useless to start programming anything, unless each and any required algorithm is available, is well understood, and all the algorithm's formulations already have been transformed into programmable data structures.

Then, and only then(!) you would want to start writing your first line of code. At that point, you might still not yet want to officially announce any plans on your coding, since the risks of failing the target still are there, and heavy at that.

I do smell that you are now taking a painfull lesson. The above issues have been in discussion for way too long already. Announcements have been made, while just these two *crucial* parts of your program are obviously still out of your reach!

And since I personally have solved both of these particular issues in question long ago, I am able to tell you that you are facing some really tough challenge. There are no books, no wikis, no online-publications on these algorithms! It's your very own job to steer clear on that.

Again: No April Fools! Just whitnessing some conceptual disaster.

Good luck, honestly, nevertheless... [redsmoke]

How have I failed? All I asked were some features people would like to see in the program.

I never announced anything.

Hello, Popcorn (Matt) here.

Me and friend of mine have been working on a Nolimits Auto-Supporter and I'd like to ask you what you want to see in this program?

Let's get the ball rolling with the first decent auto-supporter

Suggestions are really welcome. [:)]

Well red, seeing that you know so much about this program, why don't you make one yourself?

We could start negotiating at about US$ 25,000

immediately! [:p]

Why? Because it isn't worth it. [:P]

Good luck with the banking Matt!

Red makes programs that make the track, pending you understand what you're doing. He probably assumes that if you can get that far, you can do something easy like supports on your own.

*Scribbles off banking from list.
*Scribbles off collision detection too.

Oh wow! I forgot all about this. I didn't think it would get this far but from the picture it looks great. So I assume you are almost done? Or do you still got some more things to do?

There's probably a ton more things to do. I'm guessing it won't be available for a long time either.

Hm... Even if you don't get to all those steel coaster structures, I still see this useful for building annoying stuff, like supports on Arrow corkscrew coasters. (those arcs they use on loops and corkscrews) Anything that curves, heck, maybe even custom catwalks could go through.

Well, just making ideas/suggestions from what I've seen, it seems like the plotting along the track works alright.

It would be useful to be able to delete or hide a section of the auto supports without eleminating the whole entire thing. I can't tell you how much difficulty I've had with tunnel testing because of this, as well as creating complex customs when there are already supports in the way. It might not be as difficult with steel supports, but certainly this is a problem with building woodies....

Well, close for a beta anyways, and to the Coastersims GPG's.
