My fear of roller coasters.

Hey Guys.
You will probably all find this really wierd but i have just figured that i have small fear of roller coasters. I know it sounds really stupid that im on this website and dont even like going on them but i like the facts and looking at pictures and so on. Im ok on rides like Nemesis (AT), Colossus (TP), Air etc. but i get scared of rides that have things like:
Long straight drops. i.e. Oblivion
Launches. i.e. Stealth
Heights. i.e. Kingda Ka
Big freefall Drops. i.e. Detonator
I dont know whether its just a case of me liking them as i grow up but at the moment the big ones i dont really like. And if i really want to go to a theme park im always being put off by the one or two big ones. As i said you may all think im stupid being on this website but if there are any ways of stopping me from getting REALLY nervous before i go on these rides please tell me here! (I still go on them though but i just dont enjoy them much.)
Remember i still like going on rides such as Nemesis at Alton Towers.

I use to be like that.. ride something like ttd or kingda ka and you shouldnt be scard any more..

When u say fear, fear of going on them.. or have u actualy been on them and are still phisicaly / metntaly scared of them.

Cuz i went on 4G here in Athens, and i was really realy scared to be truthfull, it took me 2 years since the park opened to go on it, but once i went on it, im over the fear of going on it.

If you can understand and believe that the ride safety systems are perfectly safe, which, they are unless you do something really stupid, then theres no fear at all. People get super freaked when they forget that the restraint and belt holding them in will not fail.

I get nervous for the feelings I might feel on a ride, never a fear of my life or anything similar. Usually my nervousness is just anticipation.

Hey, there's no way of feeling guilty for that Jordz.
In the beginning, all I ever wanted was just small wooden coasters:
I didn't like coasters in dark rooms, coasters with inversions, bobsledcoasters (where you don't stick to a track most of the time) and so on...
For example, maybe you know "De Efteling" in the Netherlands?
I went in the Pegasus, and that was OK, but I was too scared to go in the Python, the Vogel Rock and even the Bobsled track [:D].
One day, my family just walked into the line of the Bobsled, and I thought: "If I go to Disneyland Paris next year with school, I must get on the coasters, or else it's a waste of time."
That's why I joined my family to go into the Bobsled.
I was freaked out when I thought:
"I'll never do this again. Not in my whole life!"
But after five minutes it was like:
"Maybe it wasn't that bad"
And after another five minutes:
"Hey peeps, let's go on it again!"
So, all I can say, just try, it's worth it.

When I finally went to Disneyland Paris, I thought: "I'm NOT going on Space Mountain: Mission 2!"
But then I remembered what I promissed myself back in De Efteling:
"I'll go on the Disneyland Coasters, or else it's a waste of time."
And then I just went, and again, and again, and again [:D]
And when the queue became too full, I just went on other rides [:D][:D][:D]
It's your own task to go on such rides, but you can always ask people to go with you... I went with my family in the Bobsled Track and with my classmates and friends (that's for me almost the same) in the Space Mountain, and their support really helped... They made me feel comfortable [:D].
I hope this long story makes you feel like: "Let's go on coasters", or at least let's you have something to read [:O]

Roller coasters would probably be pretty boring if there wasnt a sense of fear in them though. I dont think i know anyone who doesnt at least get antsy while slowly climbing up a big lifthill or sitting in your seat waiting for the light to hit green on a launch coaster.

But i dont know how anyone can feel safe in an airplane. Damn those things freak me out more than anything...

Plane's are second nature for me, iv been on so many i don't think twice about it.

U'll never ever ever get me on one of those. I have panic attacks on the top of them, they are so slow, it feels like u get stuck at the top

I've been on planes myself loads of times, and I've got my flying brefet (only need to get it to me send home [:O])
Flying IS scary, I admit, but with every good landing, you feel a lot more safe... So if you've done 3 landings, you won't even notice your fears.

I can ride any flat ride you put me on, no matter how badly it's falling apart, as far as I know, coasters scare me in line but once I sit in the seat I'm good.

Nobody should be afraid of dying on any rollercoaster but like Real said, you should be nervous of the experience you?????????re going to receive otherwise there is no use to ride it. Adrenaline is caused by fear that strengthens the body to enable you to fight whatever it is you?????????re afraid of. Dopamine is also a result of being afraid that gives a person the feeling of accomplishing something and enables the person to think that he can do anything. In other words it makes you high (naturally). It is the designer?????????s responsibility to keep this at a reasonable level to create the ultimate theme park ride.

Then I wouldn't say you're scared... I would say you're thrilled for the ride... The usual thing...

I get always get the butterflies going up a each lift for the first time... It makes everything all the more exciting. Fear drives Fun.

Dude same here. I cant do ferris wheels. I will ride anything else but ferris wheels, because I dont like hieghts unless I am strapped in. And I feel safe, thats why I can ride coasters and most rides and not second guess it, but when it comes to ferris wheels, and observation towers and stuff, I freak out big time!

Drop Towers are the worst for creating fear, because they give you time to really scare yourself. They also never look that high from the ground, but when you get on them, the height really kicks in.

I never been on one becuase you have to pay 20$ but the slingshot rides look scary. The sign in front of the ride said that you experience 5gs and go up to 100mpg. I doubt that but still you do not know when it is going to launch. Once it does your in shock and the ride just keeps on flipping for like 30 seconds. It is a pretty intense ride. I would ride it if it wasn't so darn expensive.

I can't go on ferris wheels either, but i'm fine with Observation towers. I guess its the thought of how easy you can fall out of one is what gets to me.

I hates the small spaces of ferris wheels (Not claustrofobic, except when I'm in ferris wheels).
And I REALLY HATE drop towers and sling shots...

Slingshots are fun. Only the extreme ones, bare bungee cords, and an upward facing launch.
I went on one at Magical Midmay in Florida and the acceleration sucked.

I need to know one fact and one fact alone: The ratio of roller coaster accidents to car accidents is approximately 1 to 1,000,000.

sling shots are great, drop towers awsome, scad towers sweet, bungee jumps cool, rollercoaster over the edge, but only 1 thing still scares me although im trying to fight my fear cuz its so silly.

GHOST TRAINS

not the walkabout things, just the ones where you sit down.
i must admit last time i went on the ghost train at blackpool pleasue beach i came so close to wetting myself. and for some reason i was better on duel at alton towers but it may have been somthing to do with the fact i was holding a laser?
im still afraid of them especially the travel ones in fair gronds and i do start sweeting and going weeak infront of them.

The best way to get over your fear of the bigger coasters is to ride something so big you never thought you'd ride it. Like my mom, for example. Me and my sis pretty much forced her to go on TTD with us the first time (heh), and now she doesn't even think twice about anything, anywhere. Before we rode things like MF and TTD, she was probably more scared/nervous then you are now!

when i was younger i simply wouldnt get on anything with inversions or anything just plain big, SFOG is and was my home park and the only things i would ride were the mine train, scream machine, and small little non inverting thrill rides.

but then i brought a friend of mine with me one time and he wanted to ride BTR, so i decided id wait in line with him if he really wanted to, he tried to talk me into it the whole wait and i decided well ill sit down on it and maybe ill ride, so i sat down, began pulling down the restraint, changed my mind but the restrain was already too low to get off, so i was forced to ride and sicne then i was never afraid to ride literally anything.

i used to be deathly afraid of rollercoasters.
when my sister dragged me on the phantoms revenge at kennywood that broke my fear and i ride anything now.

I still cant ride spinny rides tho because i get nasuas very easy
