Glenwood Adventure Park (Alpine Coaster) PTR!

Today I had the lucky oppurtunity to head up into the mountains of Glenwood Springs, Colorado and ride the US's first Alpine Coaster. It was VERY, VERY fun, as the speed was crazy and there was even pops of air to be found throughout the ride. I'll say more in the photo captions.

The park (which is on top of a mountain, requiring trams to get to) also had a homemade looking Screamin' Swing that swings you 1200 feet over the Colorado River below!

That park looks so cool. ive never even heard of it.
the views from the park look wicked.
Id love to ride that swingshot, i cant imagine what that looks like when ur lookin straight down the cliff.

I just dont understand how that alpine coaster works, do you start at the top of the mountain, go down the hill and then come back up on the lift?

Yup, since the park is located at the top of a mountain, the actual coaster part is first and runs down the mountain, and then the cable lift pulls you back up.

Sweet man. That place looks awesome, I must visit it one day.

Could you just go full speed the entire time on it?

Ofcourse! Some of the turns were painful due to lack of banking, but it was really worth it to go full speed for the hills, as if you slow down before them you will miss out on the air.

I also forgot to say they had a zipline that goes 50 m.p.h. down the mountain, but it was closed. It kinda looked boring anyways.

What's a zipline?
Anyway, that just looks great. Especially the giant swing thingy. We too have some of those alpine coasters in slovenia, but they're all pretty slow and boring.

That looks like a pretty crazy park! I've been on one of those alpine coasters, and yeah, they're pretty awesome. The homemade Screamin' Swing looks scary though!

So, how do you control the speed/how does it work?

There's handles on each side of the car that move together. Simply, if you don't want to use brakes, you just let them be. You can push them forward, but it didn't seem to make much of a difference. To brake, you just pull them back towards your body.

I need to get out there too. I went on something similar in Switzerland but the cars ran in a metal chute and you used a bar in front to speed up or slow down. The default position was stop, not go.

Yeah, that would be an Alpine Slide. They are alot of fun too, but IMO the coaster is better because of the speeds .
