hi there, well it's time to buy a new pc, mine has seen better days. Just wanted your views, I don't know what to go for the new athlon64, fx64 or pentium. Has any one got the new athlon and is it worth while the extra cash. I'll get one with the latest graphics card but not sure which processor to get. What are your views? Thanks.

It all depends on what you want to do, gaming is best on an Athlon and PC intensive stuff is better on Pentium. Also my brother informed me that the Athlon 64 requires a different version of windows to use the extra 32 bit. And to my knowlage that version is hard to come by, nearly impossible.

athlon64 will work with windows xp just dosn't use all the 64bit as xp is 32bit, but the next windows should be 64bit. Just don't know what its performance is like and weather it's worth the extra cash.

The Athlon64 is a kick a$$ cpu and worth every penny, but the down side to the Athlon64 is theres hardly any 64bit apps out there to get the full use of the chip. IMO, I would wait 6 mon. to a year before sinking money into an Athlon64.

The Athlon XP and Pentium 4 are about equal. Athlon XP is the best chip for gaming, and the Pentium 4 is the best chip for video editing. I personaly have 2 computers with Athlon XP's and 1 computer with an older Athlon chip, and all 3 run great.

Either way you deside to go, stock up on memory. The more memory you have, the better your cpu will run.
