Ok, I will admit I underestimated this ride. I thought it would be great, but not a contender for my #1 steel coaster. I was wrong, as it definitely is.

First of all, the reason why I find this ride amazing is completely different than why others do. The negative gs are strong, but I don't care about them whatsoever. The reason this ride is absolutely fantastic and unique is for one reason, and that is INCREDIBLY f*cking fast direction changes. I don't care about how many videos of the ride you've seen, or how many times you hear about how fast the rotations are, the first time you ride the coaster you'll be in shock at how fast and powerful the overbanks are, and just how enjoyable the S-turns' banking transitions are. Another underrated part of the ride is the Twisted Horseshoe Roll. What a kickass element that thing is. That's all that really needs to be said as it captures a feeling that can't be described with the beautiful way in which it is engineered.

The first drop, however, is nothing special compared to the rest of the ride. Airtime is not to be found until the train reaches a steepness of about 70 degrees or so, and from then on you get a split second of very strong negative gs, which feels more like hangtime than airtime. It really is undeserving of the praise it gets, but is an interesting way to start the ride off nonetheless. And it beats just about anything else out there anyways.

Another random cool part of the ride is the turn out of the launch tunnel. Best banking rotation EVER. And the launch of course rules, as is the case with every Intamin rocket coaster. Before I rode I was thinking the slow down before the launch would kill the ride's momentum, but it doesn't at all. The ride just cruises into the tunnel, slows down a bit, then takes off without allowing you to think too much. I heard that the trim slows down the train a lot, and while it does, it isn't nearly as much as I thought it would. From then on, the rest of the ride is absolutely crazy, and feels as if the train is taking the course 20 mph too fast (in a good way, of course). Apparently quite a few people think the ending isn't up to par with the first half -- I completely disagree, as the section from under the first drop to the final brakerun is the most insane stretch of track on any steel coaster that I've ridden apart from Phantom Revenge's bunny hill finale.

I should also note the smoothness of the ride. How the hell is this thing so smooth? The trains track exceptionally well. I only remember Intamin trains shaking around on the track way too much. This isn't the case here, as Maverick is smoother than any other Intamin I've been on by far.

Cedar Point still sucks as much as this review does, but Maverick is finally a reason to go visit it. It could very well be the best steel coaster out there.

Did you sit front or back? That would have a decent effect on the drop forces.

Both. They were surprisingly similar. Even in the back the negative gs were held for only very briefly on the first drop.

I'm not all that surprise as both ends are flying into the drop at a decent speed to begin with and it's not like its all that big to begin with.

Maverick indeed does pwn, over any coaster there (although i still think mantis is great.( nobody else does lol)) anyways, ya, i'm glad you enjoyed that ride as much as i did.

I went one week back and yesterday. After the first time it was my second favorite coaster, but after riding the front and the back yesterday it is my number 1 coaster.

Having the most coasters doesn't mean it's one of the best. This is why it sucks:

-Park admission is way too much
-They charge $3 for a 20 oz
-Everything costs at least 3 times (not an exaggeration) in the park what the normal price for the respective items cost outside of the park
-No matter how much money they make, they STILL refuse to put tents and/or mist fans in most of the queue lines
-Their management consists of cheap bastards who's primary goal is to take advantage of their visitors
-They have assigned seating to their two major thrill rides (MaXair and Skyhawk)
-Skyhawk is run by incompetent employees.
-The park is too big
-Their employees for the most part are rude, inconsiderate pricks
-The majority of their coasters aren't even worth riding
-The queue lines are WAY too long for the non-worth riding coasters
-They have a ridiculously HUGE ego
-They wouldn't let my mom ride Jr. Gemini, even though she couldn't ride any other coasters because she has back problems and is scared of larger ones. She paid full park admission just like anyone else there.
-Parking is $10.

Is that enough reasons for it to be my least favorite park? I think so.

The coasters don't look too great...thats a problem.

The only rides that look worth it to me are:
1. Maverick
2. Magnum
3. Raptor

Some of those are definately true, but a lot of them don;t affect the park itself. Them having a huge ego is true, and is a turnoff for those of us who know what they're like, but it still doesn't effec thte park itself. Neither does the extra long lines for not-so-popular coasters. I found the employees to be great and EXTREMELY friendly, and very helpful on all 3 of my 4-day visits there. Maybe I just got 12 awesome days, but I dunno.

I know it's personal opinion, but I do love 6 of their coasters to death (or will be 6 soon), and a few others I'll ride anyways, even though they aren't mind blowing. I don't know why so many people hate TTD. It's way, way too short, but the overall experiance is crazy. The launch is FAST, and the view looking down on MF and the rest of the park is crazy. As is the drop right after.

I didn't find the park too big, but if you do, then there's the train to take you from one part to the other. I personally do love the place, I couldn't find much wrong with it. Except prices, that's the one thing I definately 100% agree with you. Food is insanely overpriced.

Millennium Force not worth it? Do you not want to try a 300 foot 80* drop, sustained speeds of 80+ mph and points of over 90 mph, a smooth ride, and 4 spots of airtime? Wicked Twister not worth the 20 min line? Is Mantis *that* much different from SKC? C'mon dude.

Intaminfan, your opinions and statements continue to confuse me sometimes. With a park like CP, I think it's fine for you to say it's your least favorite for whatever reason you want, but to say it sucks is just wrong considering how well they're doing, and how many people go there and enjoy themselves compared to those who don't.

Honestly, I really don't get the bad vibe MF gets. I think it really is just copycat crap. Like they see someone big in the community say they don't like it and then they assume it's instantly a bad ride because the one guy might not love it.

The first drop is enough for me. Sure there might be drops with more forces, but back seat on that is like "OH S#@$! I'm still falling!".

I can understand why a few people don't like MF, but the reason....Coaster snob!! [lol] I personally don't need something to be non-stop crazy action, the speed, bits of air and the greatest first drop ever are fantastic and make it worth it IMO. Especially in the back[approve]

Too far....I'll just ride Toro[:)] But the air MF has is totally fine, from videos you obviously can't tell. But there is enough on the drop, the air hill soon after, the air hill parallel to that, and then the bunny hop at the end. Plus 90+ mph speed, 300 ft. drop at an 80* angle, why does it get such a bad reputation with so many people? Alright, fine, complain about the air, but at least some is still there. What's so bad about the rest of it?

Yes, SROS > MF, but MF still has some excellent qualities. I also thought the second camelback has good air... the air people put down on that hill is the same air people praise on Nitro and the other B&M speed coasters, just maybe with some tighter restraints.

Eh I'm an airtime junkie so my view is biased. Plus i've been on SROS (which still pwns MF in other peoples' opinions).

If you catch it on a good day the smaller one can really be killer too. I liked the first one because it's just so long.

That is HALF the feeling, is it not? Kinda the reason that I prefer Wooden coasters to steel - the restraints generally give me more room.

Secondly, IF and I are actually on the same very exact page. I would agree completely with his statements about everything. I think the back row definatly holds the air longer and more extreme and I would say without a doubt that a G Graph would show that. Maybe its not felt as much but I spend most of my time back there and when I go to the front seat, theres nice air but its not the back.

Mf is good if you can wait under 30 minutes. But that only happens during Halloweekends. Its not worth the hour or two wait. Not when I can ride Maverick, which is 10 times the ride and 10 times the fun, twice in that time.


Im also glad someone enjoys the rotational twist at the end of the launch as much as I do.

Also IF, did you notice the extreme positive G's right in that turn after the launch and after the last overbank? Ive never felt positives like that. Simply ridiculous.

Not sure how you and IF are on the same page on the drop issue considering your statement about the first drop was more like my expectations that the air is probably somewhat noticeably better in the back, compared to what I understood of his thoughts that there wasn't much of a difference.

They can staple you on Nitro just as much as they can on MF too, and the last time I was at GAdv they were pushing the restraints on Nitro all the way down, even though at times some of the ops were only pulling up on the El Toro restraints. So I'd probably blame the ops and CP policy for more stapling on MF, because if they checked the restraints like they do sometimes on SROS SFA, then the airtime would be pretty similar... still maybe a little better on Nitro, but at the same time MF I think has more speed there, and the air is sustained for longer.

I do agree though to some degree, and I'll say this. If the hill shaping and speeds, rider view and height off of track, and actual track style were the same, and if there was no pullup before said hill (that would push a B&M restraint down without effort to keep it up), I'd choose a B&M seats, legroom, and restraints over Intamin. Ofcourse there are always more factors than that, but if all those features were not variable, then I'd definately choose B&M.

MF is a totally bi polar ride though. I have gotten a few rides where I got mild floater on the second air hill coming back over the water to the station but its rare. Not enough for me to say it consistantly does this. So really the only air is the drop and the short burst next to the station.

And if you are going to nitpick as far that since I said everything, then disagree with one point...come on, is it worth it? I had originally aimed that at his "list" though.


But MF would need another 5-10mph on the lift to generate any air worth talking about over those two hills. Whats funny is people hate straight sections. But I would bet if they had small straights before and after each hill and shortened and lowered each of those hills to sustain at least -0.75 or even up to -1 at those speeds the rides appeal would instantly jump up and the straight sections would barely be mentioned because youd actually get good air. Alot of people mention the long straight on SROS, but immediatly comment on the awesome air of the hill that follows. I still cant wrap my brain around what CP was thinking with MF other than pure marketing and record machine - not whats the best possible design.
