With the latest actions of Russia I feel we have seen the mark that identifies today as the official beggining of the cold war part 2. With Russia testing the world largest non nuclear bomb, it is evident that Russia is in an arms race. Also with the hypocritism that Russia portrays in not allowing the USA to buiuld a missile defense system, yet they complete their own missile defense system is another piece of key evidence of the mounting tensions that Russia has towards the United States. Vlademir Putin has effectively sent his message to the United States and to the world that it is arming up and protecting itself from a future attack and arming itself for a future atack, either in retaliation or simple invasion. Anyway, I just wanted to mark this day as the official start of The Cold War II.

With Russia testing the world largest non nuclear bomb

This bomb is the answer to your GBU-43 MOAB (?????????Massive Ordnance Air Blast????????? also "Mother of all bombs"), which was the biggest non nuclear bomb before. They work the same way and it's not suprising that Russia would build its own one, after you had tested yours successful, isn't it?

You all kind of have to understand that when you look at the wider picture that includes all of the terrorism Russia has delt with and their relative proximity to the Middle East that it's understandable for them to want to build up arms.

You have to think of the school takeover where around 300 people died. The "lets bomb civilian apartment buildings at random" trend that was going on, and overall the country has been through lots of awful shiz and it seems like it doesn't get any attention for it. Had a school been taken over in Israel and the equivalent number of people killed in that situation the media would be all over it because precious Israel had something bad happen in it.

Yes many things done are rather unacceptable, but they have every right to build bombs if they want. The USA did the same thing to them in a way with the "mother of all bombs" testing. Fair is fair.

Cruise through the wikipedia article on terrorism in Russia, it's pretty awful.

^ Bingo!

Is Russia still a country? I thought they split into like 9 nations bent on domination by themselves? Either way, they suck and half their nation still lives well below the poverty line. Piff ... I ain't worried and I am IN the United States Armed Forces.

Sometimes the best thing to say is nothing at all.

Edit since you decided to be a punk:

No, I am thinking of the inability for them to think as a nation ... ya know, because up until now each "leader" hasn't had the balls to actually do something productive because they wanted control of their own little kingdom. Either way, it is bunk ... they want to play games? Ask Hiroshima how serious we can be. They want to fight? Fine by us. even the Kennedy family will take up a weapon to get some payback. Ignorant this, Casper.

We all know that the USA wont Hiroshima or Nagasaki again unless it is done to them first. Times are different and we need the approval of the important countries of the world for if we do another nuclear holocaust, we will die of starvation and this country will become a mutiny. Nuclear warfare can and will only occur if another country starts it. Times back in WW2 were different and so was the train of thought for the USA was different then.

I wouldn't worry as lots of big things Russia sets out to do end up being an abysmal failure/money black hole. Chernobyl was supposed to be a 6 or 7 reactor complex and we the world's largest power station to power the USSR. WE all know that Reactor No. 4 didn't agree with this plan and they had to halt construction on reactor's 5 and 6 and also created the world's largest economic and ecological disaster.

Their military operations were mostly a lie in the past as well. When they were showing off planes they would circle a bunch of then around over and over again to make it look like they had much more than they really had.

erm Russian History actually proves that even due to the fact the country is behind in a number of ways, Russia can pose some major threat, even on countries so large and advanced as the USA. Maybe not so much as they did in the past, but the threat is still there. Their geography, size, and the fact that half their nation lives well below the poverty line may have its disadvantages, but it also has some incredible advantages. Take the fact that all those poor Russians live below the poverty line like you say for instance, this surely means WAY MORE Russians will be willing to join the military if needed. The US population is over double that of Russias, but in a western country such as America, less people have a need to risk their lives for their country, even if they are patriotic.

All im saying is, dont underestimate the power of Russia. If they managed to make a more efficient military, then they could pose serious threat to any country they needed. Like Coasterkidmwm said

Sure most of their military operations were mostly lies and exagerated. BUT if you start to underesitimate a country because of things like this, then you can seriously hit some problems because of your ignorance. Its much better to treat it as a threat and be prepared, than just think "Oh Russias a pile of crap, who cares" and get bitten on the ass.

I dont see how someone can mark them off as not being a threat. Their entire air force was designed to combat American aircraft.

At least gotta give them credit where credit is due for the "FOAB" they can actually drop this from a dedicated bomber (Tu-160, basically a B1 knockoff. The MOAB is dropped from the back of a C-130 cargo plane.

And our planes were designed to kill the Iraqi Airforce?

I'm telling you, it's just too cold there. If it wasn't, they'd be able to relax a little more and not hate everything so much.

Canada is cold and they're WWWWAAAAAYYYYYY lamer than Russia. I don't think the cold plays a big part in it.

Actually I take that back, from watching the video a little more it looks more like it was dropped from the back of a cargo plane. That video is kinda entertaining. First they probably lie about how the weapon is deployed, then they show only part of the explosion.

@ kidmwm You make a valid point however the Iraqi airforce was never a match for the combined American and British forces. They were stuck using previous generation fighters with a much crappier pilot training program against superior numbers and aircraft. Which by the way were newer and more often than not destroyed the enemy before they even had a chance to fire. That being said, the American air-force has not had to combat a highly training opponent who is using roughly equivalent aircraft. Yeah our planes were designed to combat a USSR led force, during the various conflicts over the last 15 years air superiority has been easily obtained quickly and we havnt really had any Mig-29s or Su-27s to shoot down, it was always older tech. Besides the IAF has more Air-to-air kills than the Americans (with F-15s) then we do!
