Okay, so here I was, on my computer, thinking I was finally virus free again, when apparently there was still a trojan hiding somewhere, and it downloaded this fake program virus called Advanced Virus Remover. It's one of those fake programs where it claims it's an antivirus software trying to get you to purchase the "full version". Anyways, I keep getting this swarm of popups trying to convince me my system is infected, please download this full version from windows. Norton can't find the damn thing, and when I try to delete the "program file" it says it's in use and it can't be deleted. I really need help on removing this thing. Spybot ain't helping either. Please, someone help!

Edit: okay, I've removed the program file which for some unholy reason it suddenly let me do, but the popups and stuff are still there! The "program" itself is apparantly still in my cpu, and I can't find it in "add or remove programs".

Do a system restore back to a point before you had this virus

That's not going to work, whenever I try to activate system restore I get a popup that says "Warning: cannot be opened! your system is infected, please activate your antivirus software." which I'm assuming is from the scareware (AVR)

because you're 12 years old and need to get off the internet.

seriously, how stupid are you?

FinallyFast, my computer is Fast, finally, FinallyFast.com!

Anything claiming to get rid of spyware, malware, trojans, viruses is always a scam. Even Norton and that crap. Best advice, don't have any virus protection. Conincidentaly, my computer has been better since I've gotten rid of Norton, instead of having it.

1-Get a list of standard operations for your operating system. If you have Windows XP, depending on what service pack(if any) you have installed, it should be around 11.

2-Restart in safe mode, disable networking.

3-Close all processes that are not on the list.
But no matter what, some that you should NEVER close are "csrss.exe" "isass.exe" "svchost.exe--no matter how many instances are open" "system idle process" "services.exe" "spoolsv.exe" and "system"

4-Open command line, type tree. You will see a huge list of files. Navigate to the program files, point out any abnormal folders/files.

5-This is the hardest part. This is where most viruses/trojans root themselves, often into files that are already there. If you really want your computer back to normal, this might take a while. Find a list of the standard files in the windows, and win32 folder. Delete any abnormal files, replace any .dll files that have modification dated after your computer was infected.

If you need a list, i can get one for you.

I had this and was lost as hell. I stopped using my computer for about a week and it was just gone. A system restart can do it to which i was just about to do.

Norton is actually highly effective. I have it on my computer and that was the only thing it didn't get.

Yeah, I don't have any virus protection programs. I have now had my computer for over a year and a half and no problems at all. I have never been a fan of virus protection programs, they always seem to be more of a hassle then anything.

But yeah, that sucks man, I'm sorry. I hope you figure it out.

Get symantec. It detects worms going through your pc, and also alerts you of trojans or whatever, with a small popup in the bottom right corner.

Oh, and it removes the viruses in just a couple minutes. I've had it for a year or so now, and have NEVER had any trouble with it.
