I know this is a coaster site...but we have an off topic board for a reason. So I decided to talk a bit about something that exists very much in our world today.

I am an American-born Asian and I have lived in the US for my whole life. When I first meet somebody, they ask, "How can you speak English so good?" Well, first of all, I was born here. Second of all, it's "well", not "good". Seriously, you'd think people who live here should know their English by now.

Okay - so I'm Asian. Here are a few main stereotypes that I have to deal with constantly:
- Cheap
- Nerd
- No social life
- Good at music
- Good at math
- Can hack an iPhone with no effort whatsoever

These are actually among the kindest of the Asian stereotypes. When one gets into the nether region of the human body, Asians have it bad as well.

OK. Let's assume that yes, indeed, I am cheap. Well, that's good, because I will end up in far less debt than people who care more about what something's worth than the quality of it. And what the hell is wrong with being a nerd? We're all coaster nerds here...who cares if someone's a music nerd or school nerd? Why do we look down on people who are intelligent?

No social life. Hmm. Well, having a social life in today's society usually is synonymous with drinking, doing drugs, and partying all night. So if I have no social life and you do...well, I'm probably more responsible and have more self-control over myself than you do.

You probably get my track by now. And I'm sure that you're sick and tired of me talking. Yes, I'm a geek. No, I'm not "cool". Especially since to be "cool" these days, you've got to be ignorant, stupid, unaware of the happenings of the world, and you can't, under any circumstances, read a frickin' newspaper.

Sometimes I really hate the world we live in. What do you guys think? Besides the fact that I have way too much time and am a loser and a geek.

Really I honestly have to say that I involve myself in racism jokes but I regret it really. I think the world is trash now because of this. You can not spend a day without someone dissing Mexicans or Polish people. I find it a pathetic way of humor. Oh, and btw, hacking an iPhone with no no effort is a true talent! [lol]

No matter who or what you are, you'll always have to deal with stereotypes. I'm not even sure that racism is the proper word for it...perhaps 'human nature' would be more accurate. Anyway.. the quicker you can learn to ignore such things, the better off you'll be. The world isn't such a bad place, once you get used to it.

Just my two cents.

thatoneband, you might want to learn to spell correctly and not use chatspeak. After all, you are typing on a keyboard.

Racist jokes, if one understands them as jokes, are usually taken without offense. But when you're being judged with no intent of humor, even if you're being judged positively, it just becomes exasperating.

And I know very well that I have to deal with stereotypes. Wishful thinking is a beautiful thing though.

And Kev, the world is a pretty awful place if you think about it - we make such a big deal about Cho Seung-Hui, who, might I add, does NOT represent all of Korea, when there are people in Africa and Iraq dying by the hundreds or thousands.

White people suck sometimes - there's no denying it.

As do Asians/Jews/Mexicans/Blacks/Browns.

Wow I think Thatoneband and Limitsfreak should have a gaysex party.

Anyways, I think you need to relax about the racism loopier. Everyone has to deal with that stuff. It sounds like you are more insecure than really picked on. Racial stereotypes are slowly dissapearing as the world becomes more tolerant of everyone. I know nobody really at my school is "COOL" or "NOT COOL" because they read a newspaper or something. Everyone does thier own thing and nobody really judges. The only judgements people make at my school really are "nice" and "mean". That is up to you to make for yourself. If someone picks on you for being asian and reading a newspaper just know that they arent very mature yet. No biggie.

Is there really a difference between brown and blacks?

Well...none of us are really mature yet. I mean just the fact that I even spent ten minutes writing out a boring rant shows that I'm not mature yet. It's kind of nice though to just rant, especially on a site that so frequently is polluted by pointless spam.

I know this as a fact, because I was a spammer when I first joined this site as an underage member three years ago.

EDIT: Brown = Indians. Blacks = African-Americans. Man I'm being PC.

Nothing wrong with ranting, if it makes you feel better. Just don't let it consume you every hour of every day. Just try to remember that everybody deals with it.

^Eh, I guess I should've been more clear with how I feel. I cant say much about the rest of the world but:

"Racial stereotypes are slowly dissapearing In America as we becomes more tolerant of eachother."

I would say racial stereotypes should be disappearing as we become more tolerant of each other, but we definitely haven't come as far as most people would like to think we have in the last 40-50 years (the whole Jena 6 issue is a good current example.)

^ well there is always random things that stray from the crowd like Jenna 6. But in general we are moving very rapidly. 50 years ago there were racially divided schools, parks, theatres, and all the other nonsense. I know at least for me I dont even think about race at all first when I see another race of person. Our generation is breaking the barriers down.
