Racial stereotypes are not disappearing, if anything they are just as bad or worse. I believe part of the problem is this Crayola-based world we live in. Brown, Black, Yellow, White, is there really any need for that? I for one have stopped seeing myself and others as a color, and I feel that I am a better person than I was in doing so.

everyone is a little racest and noone can deny it, yes im slightly racest i am and i do sometimes enforce steriotypes but only ever when i know the guy and then when i know it will be taken as a joke.

for example oscar eats nothing but tacos and im shure he wears a dirty white shirt, a somberaro and has 2 chains of bullits over his chest.

the only thing i hate is the way if i called you black its racist, you call me white its not. if i make a joke about your colour its racist yet if you make a joke about mine its not. thats what i find very annoying. if we say "that black guy over there" we get called racists but if you shout at me "Hey white guy!" everything is fine.

im not the best either i get alot of sterotypes a me too being overwieght, ginger and having a slightly brummy accent so i get sterotypes from being unfit which im not, i can still do all you thin guys can and im acctually quite fit as a matter of fact, i get jokes about my hair colour which dont bother me cuz im one of a dieing bread of ginger people and brummy, well at least i dont kick off every time like gouldy does when hes called a brummy[lol]

oh and homie, even though cultures are bacoming more tollerant i bet your citys and towns have black areas and white areas. in the uk its not like official by the goverment but there are certain areas which we all know as being where the white man lives and the black man lives. for example where i live near walsall the east side of walsall where i live is all white people and the west side of walsall is all asian and black people. its always been this way and were the two meet is a very deprived and has a very high crime rate. usualy from black and white gangs fighting over teratory or somthing like that. the whole of the uk is the same and im shure most of the us towns are like this too.

I live in Leicestershire.

We have the "golden mile" (Belgrave Road to those of you who know) which only has asian shops on. You don't see many whites walking around that area.

I think we got labelled as one of the first multicultural cities in the UK or something similar.

Let's see, well were all a mixed buch here, and I beleive it is okay to state your beliefs ad vent. I am African-American, so I can totally understand where your coming from, but at the same time it is getting better. Racism does still exist, don't get me wrong, but for the most part it has become more of a "joke" in our society. Me and my friends joke about race all the time, but the thing is there alot of boundaries and rules that you have to take into account as well. Many races do get offended by different terms and you have to know when to limit yourself.

Personally, I say nowadays people get along much better than they did 50-60 years ago. You know being black I do see alot of racism around first hand. More than I think there really needs to be. But you know with our generation, and the generations after us, hopefully it will just start to get better.

As far as sterotypes your just going to have to deal with them. There are sterotypes for ALL Races.

Blacks-like kool-aid and fried chicken, are thugs, are gangbangers.
Asians-Are nerdy, can't drive, like rice, have funny accents
Mexicans-only talk spansih, work at mcdonalds, mow yards for a living
Whites-White trash, Rednecks, dumb blondes, like pizza and barbeque
Native americans-worship cows, are dirty, arranged marriages

You know..everyone has sterotypes with each race, it's gonna be there and you know people are going to bring it up. Most people nowadays just use them as jokes, and whatnot. I don't mind jokes, me and friends joke all the time, but there are times where people take it too far, and you just have to stop it. But for the most part just be open-minded and don't take anything to heart, and if you do feel offended just ask them to stop, or just walk away and don't worry about, because it happens to everyone.

Don't ever think that racism died out and that it's only a joke from this day forward. If you do believe in that statement then you are a fool. I'm even a bit of a racist now and then seeing that I was alive when apartheid was still in our country. I do feel sad about the horrible thoughts that can go through my head when I encounter a black person driving like an idiot on the road or when seeing a black guy on TV that has an opinion that I don't agree with. But I know that I'm trying to judge someone that I don't even know.

I also know some people that are extreme racists, some of them where even part of the AWB organization. If you actually listen to the things they talk about in a conversation, you wouldn't trust one of them with a tissue box.

Unfortunately it works both ways around as well. But one of the biggest problems here in South-Africa is the people that make it look so bad, from all sides of our nation. My home language is even dying out here due to all the sissy Afrikaans people moving to England, Australia, etc????????? Anybody here that lives in the UK should know that there are thousands of South-Africans living around them.

^see your in a different society than I am. I do understand what you are coming from big time, I know people are a little racist because we beleive the stereotypes that we here most of the time. It's just human nature, when we here something it tends to just stick in the back of our minds. What I was pertaining to is that America is getting better at this. Beleive me the country has came a long way in the last 60 years. When i said racism in america is more of a "joke" it doesn't mean to be offensive. All I was saying that nowadays its put into humor alot, and you know most people accept it. Some do get offended and that is when we take action. Some people can go over the top with stereotypes but all in all there is no really huge issues with it nowadays like it used to be.

Racism will always be around us and I don't think anyone can really change that because EVERYONE, I don't care who you're, is racist to some degree. For example, I will whole heartedly admit that I am in fact a racist. I admit it. I am slightly racist against black people and I have to say my feelings towards many jewish people are not the best and I am ashamed of it. I am MUCH more racist against jewish people than black people however.

I am not a fan of the wannabe ghetto rapper gangbanger group because it absolutely disgusts me when I go out and do a trash run at 6:30 AM right when I get to work (I try to get outside chores done early before it gets hot during the summer) and I find some ghetto thug banging a hooker in the goddamned alley (this has happen 3 times in 2 summers). I'll go get one of the big strong scary looking people from the factory and walk down with a of crowbars and kick the hooker out of the scrapyard, and then I'm left with a goddamned bunch of condoms all over the ground to clean up and sometimes a bunch of heroine needles. This pisses me off and makes me think bad thoughts about black people. Where I work is on the border of the mexican and black areas. I pick up trash once a week on the mexican side and I pick up trash once a day on the black side.

My whole family is racist against Jewish people because we live close by the temple and on some holidays before the temple added on a parking lot we would have people park their car infront of the WHOLE driveway so my parents could not get the out of the driveway. Some people have to do things on jewish holidays. This pisses off my family and makes us think bad thoughts. Additionally my mom works at the local grocery store and gets treated like absolute dog crap from the jewish mothers out shopping for groceries. The treatment they give the employees at that store is totally unreasonable. I also get annoyed when I made fun of because I can't speak goddamned Hebrew and have never been to Israel. Being insulted for cultural things like that annoys the hell out of me and is totally unreasonable.

The above are observations myself and my whole family has made because of the environment around us. It is not an excuse, it's just some reactions to people are "learned" by repeated experience.

When I say I am racist against people, it doesn't mean I totally hate them, it's just that I think bad thoughts immediately when I see an obviously jewish person or a black person. At home I have several jewish friends and my best friend David is jewish. I've been hanging around him since 4th grade (we we moved into that neighborhood). At work I would eat lunch for the first 15 minutes with the white people and then go outside and spend the other 15 minutes eating lunch with the black people since they separate themselves. I do get along with both races, it's just I think bad thoughts initally.

Things like the above that I mentioned are why racism will always be around.

EDIT: Feel free to flame me for anything I said above. In summary, everyone is a bit racist from what they've observed around them and it impacts them. The above is what I've seen.

^ Actually Coasterkidmwm I completely understand where you are coming from, and I respect that, but at the same time I feel you need to grow up a little and just get over it because that's life and it's not going to change. I completely understand your families hatred for an entire group of people, that they have only seen maybe 1% of the actualy poplulation actually doing it, but at the same time you need to get a grasp on your own life and maybe look over your own beleifs to a certain group a peple.

I know you have heard this time and time again buy I am going to say it anyway. Just because you see two black guys gang bangin' at six in the morning raping a hooker while your taking your trash out doesn't mean that all black people do that. Beleive me, I have better things to do with my life than shoot people up and rape women. Some people actually like to take charge of their lives and do something with it, it has nothing to do with race. I see whites gangbang, I see mexicans gangbang. It doesn't matter what color you are, it all depends on what lifestyle you live.

I also am not saying that gangbanging is right, but sometimes that is all people know and that is how they grow up. Some people realizes that it's wrong and try to change there life while others don't. Obviously you have grown up in this type of lifestyle so your going to do it. You know that it's wrong, it's all up to you to make a descision to fix it or leave your life the way it is. It doesn't matter how much you hate a group of people, your always going to be outnumbered. SO you might as well get over it.

I know not all black people are not like that and I know all Jewish people are not buttheadslike that. That's why I'm friends with more than 1 person from each group. I'm just trying to explain where some of the thoughts that enter my mind initially came from and why they're there.

EDIT: God I sound like one of those people who is like "I HATE GAY MARRIAGE AND FAGGOTS! But I have 1 gay friend" which also means I have no excuse for my thoughts.

Coasterkid, I admire your ability to admit quite honestly your feelings towards certain races. And I think more people should really learn from your post and stop saying racism is slowly disappearing in America. It's not.

I must say that I am most racist towards white people. Particularly in the last few years, I have started to regard them as rich SOBs that think the world revolves around them. Probably the reason I have these feelings are the fact that I have met a few white people who are racist, even if they don't realize it. It's a bit of a paradox that my annoyance at racism sparks racism in myself.

That's my story.

unfortunately, some of those stereotypes are true for many people. Im not saying its you, but some people out there are a part of one, many, or even all of those stereotypes. Personally, believe that we generalize way to much.
So, my friend came up to me the other day and asked if I wanted a frozen banana, and I said no, but I want a normal banana later, so... yea.

I think racism would not exist as prevalently as it does in America if people didn't have so many stereotypes. I'm black, but in now way do I even want to be assosiated with "wannabe ghetto rapper gangbangers" because that's just not my style. I think if we took the tme to learn and get to know one another, we could find out that we're just all retty much alike, yet different. And we all are humans. Maybe I'm sounding to cliche.

Still completely disagree. Maybe in your area, but I think for the amount of people that grow more tolerant the same amount of people grow intolerant.

Ckwdm though has a better attitude than many. At least he knows that he has some tendancies and is aware of them. I dont think bad thoughts when I see black people, but I have reactions to certain situations. I have overcome little by little some of those "world views" we gained from our younger years. Like, when driving through the "projects" or the "ghetto" I DONT lock my doors. Call it stupid. Call it idiotic. But for me and myself, doing so reinforced the idea that EVERYONE in the area is a threat and I have to protect myself. I have helped train myself to ignore such thoughts by doing something tangible like making sure Im not paranoid when driving through an area like that.

But racism is alive and well and I do NOT think its any better or any worse than it ever has been. I think its something that has kind of existed and will exist forever in a similar amount since it came to be a serious problem.

^ You really CANT just say that "I dont think its any better or worse". Do black people have to sit in the back of the bus in your town? If not, then it is clearly better. I know every place is different, and California is probably one of the most diverse places, making it faster in becoming tolerant. So we all have different situations of how racial equality is coming. But I can tell you, in my neck of the woods, its coming along.

I live in California and don't see racism as it being any better from my childhood to present day. Seems worse to me, but I am just that badass that I could care less about those asshats.

The #2 top management position at the company i work for is filled by a person who is black... and a woman... not to mention she weighs about 450 lbs. The chances of her being put in that position 20 years ago is very slim... no pun intended. So, things have changed over the years. They have gotten a little better. Does that mean we live in a perfect society? No. But it's not as bad as it was.

As for stereotypes... I think it's okay to say you dislike people for falling in their group's stereotype, so long as you separate the stereotype from the group. For example, I'm not too fond of the gangster types (you can pick a color, but it's mostly black or mexican that I see around here), white people who act black, and gay men who think it's okay to have sex with 50 different people per month. Is it any reflection on the groups they belong to? No.

my dad made a point out of teaching us not to be racist. in fact racism was not tolerated in our house, and my dad forbade me to hang out with a freind who had called my freind gordon the nword. i didn't miss that freind much, because he was kind of a jerk anyways.. i was freinds with gordon till he moved away. racism just was not acceptable in my family. my dad will point out differences in cultures, but not really in a condescending way.. i guess i was lucky.. on the other hand he does not approve of the revs. jackson and sharpton.

Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are self-proclaimed leaders that usually jump on every possible oppurtunity to boost their personal image. At least that's how I feel. Although I do agree with what Sharpton said about the Jena 6, most other things he speaks about sound like a bunch of bull$hit organized in such a way that it makes him sound like a wise preacher of some sort.

I am not judging black politicians, as I highly respect Barack Obama (except for his crack about bombing Pakistan). I just don't feel that Jackson and Sharpton are true leaders.

The only real thing I have a problem with is that people from other cultures can wear their headdresses during the national anthem, that REALLY bothers me. It's just a sign of respect to take it off... we have to..
