Why should they have to do something that is generally unacceptable and/or disrespectful in their religion (I'm assuming you're talking about hijabs worn by muslims) just to make you happy? It's a little different than just taking a baseball cap off.

Sadly she got to that position because (inpart) of her color and being a woman. Todays corporate world judges you by how diverse your workforce is.

At UPS we didnt discriminate, but we would hire people that we knew would help us meet our goals of having our work force match the surrounding area.


Managments works the same way. I knew a couple women in managment who SUCKED but they got there because when a position opened up, they needed a woman and she was the best WOMAN for the job. Same for black, hispanic and white!


SFMM Homie - Racism doesnt have to be as extreme as forcing people to sit at the back of the bus. Its also NOT just about blacks here Im talking. On the average, all races, nations and both sexes - I dont think its gotten any better.

The only thing weve done is make LAWS that enforce people to try and follow a life of ethics - but we all know that LAWS do not change people on the inside. It only influences your actions on the outside.

I noticed that racism is surprisingly different in different areas of the country. For instance, I now live in Boston, where I find the racial divide to be very great. It's surprising to think that a more "educated" town like this would have the racial segregation that it has, but I noticed that as a white person, I feel a lot of tension from some groups of minorities.

I used to live in the south for a short while (north carolina), where it was immediatly obvious that black/white social interaction was a lot more common and pleasant, though I can say that there was not much in the way of diversity of other minority groups. One would think that KKK style rednecks would cause more trouble there. weird.

I also noticed a different racial climate in NYC, where people seemed friendlier than I am used to here and maybe less suspicious. Again, this is surprising, considering all the myths about New York City being crime ridden and unfriendly.

I am not sure where I am going with all this, except to say that racism is often a reaction to your surroundings. I feel less wary around people who treat me respectfully/equally. How you may feel toward a group of people often is a reflection of how they feel towards you. Also, what you feel about racism probably varies thoughout the country, and I'm sure from country to country. Having said that, I'm sure being a minority is uncomfortable. I remember being in Japan and being practically the only western looking person there. It was uncomfortable to be stared at all the time, not least because I had no idea what they were saying....

actually, she got the position because of her experience in the business. there probably wasn't a better choice but her. but I do understand what you're saying. What you describe happens a lot.

I'm only posting in this topic, to say that I'm not going to post in this topic, for the simple reason that I would probably be thrown from the website for merely pointing out what I see.

We're in a sorry situation here where in actual fact, it's the other way round and victims of racism are the natives. And that's all I'm going to say.

Let's all learn a lesson from musicals:

The bible says you can't have long hair, but we don't cut our hair every time we go into church.

People in the Catholic Church hear wear headdresses, and if they believe in the catholic God then there is no reason for it...

It's a friggen hat, just take it off and respect your country.

Yea, I was implying that she - out of other women - was the most qualified. But companies now will look for ONLY a certain person to fit into their business to make them "look good" so they can say "Hey, we have 25% women! That makes our company good!" When they could be (not always) the worst people for the jobs.

Its just an observation that I noticed while I was there.
