i-pod touch

does anyone have one? My birthday is on saturday and im thinking i want it either for my bday or christmas. If you have one, do you like it? is it worth getting? and have you installed any of the apps?

For the same price you can get an Archos 605 (google it), basically the same thing but with a 160 gig hard drive instead of 16. The touch screen isn't quite as nice as the ipod one, but it's bigger and has better resolution. Just something to think about, the tiny amount of space on the ipod touch is what kept me from getting one.

another reason why i would want it is because of the applications you can download on it, (games etc).

^^If you really think about the iPod Touch though: how big is a movie and how much music do you really listen to at a time? We all used to use CD's which we changed out because of how limited the space was. It's really not that hard to just swap stuff out, and how many people really need 160gb of space for music?

Additionally, the touch uses flash memory. No moving parts means fewer things that can break.

^^ I don't think there are too many games available for the touch, are there?

personally i dont like them simply because its nothing but a dumbed-down iPhone, with a millimeter or two shaved off.

whenever i say that people are always like "yeah but you can get a 16GB iPod Touch, only 8GB with an iPhone"
well first of all, i have alot of music and 8GB is enough space for me, barely enough, but it all fits, and if it didnt, theres a 16GB iPhone model scheduled for release in January.

Because a product is better than something will not change anyone's mind. That lower case 'i' before it makes all the difference.

I'm getting the lovely $300 8G Touch for Christmas, and I'm very excited. In my city, you'd be cooler to have no MP3 Device than one that isn't an iPod...

Men that's so pathetic... well for someone who buys "cool" things it's normal to prefer an Ipod. Personally I don't give a damn about the look of my MP3 all I care about is the technical stuff like the capacity, the sound quality...

Why is this that you think the iPod Touch is a waste of money? It is a superb product that, as far as I've heard, rarely disappoints and has a high satisfaction rate. It looks cool, does what we want it too, and has a perfectly leveled price.

If I recall correctly neither of us said we were trying to be cool, nej. Sure, I'll have an iPod. Why? Not to try and be cool. To get something that can play me songs and show me videos.

I bought my iPod because it's easy to use and is a well put together product. I don't like the menu systems on the Archos and it doesn't have many of the features that the iPod Touch does, nor the support from manufacturers or users.

No if you want to have as much quality as possible for the amount of money you spend, go for something else (Zen, Archos). Cause serious, you're paying 100 bucks to much for the lower case 'i'..

Yeah if you want something that will fit in your pocket and 16 gigs is enough, go with the ipod. I went with the Archos because I have over 50 gigs of music, and I wanted all of my movies and TV stuff on it too.

The iPod Touch is well worth the money it costs. Maybe the other MP3 devices are just as cool for not as much money, but that's because the manufacturers won't be able to sell them for more than they cost. Why? because of product popularity. Apple has made its name popular. It can sell these things for quite a bundle, so why not? People will still buy them. Almost all will love them.

You just said you'd choose an iPod over anything else because of the "i" in front. So, that's pretty much saying you want it because it's an apple product.

Why should you choose an mp3 player based on how cool it is (or anything for that matter)? Are you saying you wouldn't buy a cheaper mp3 player with exactly the same features and specs just because it doesn't have the apple name on it? I liked my 3G ipod, but these new ones just don't look as good for what I want them to do. Should I have bought an ipod just to be cool, even though the Archos fit my needs better? Also, if "your city" is St. Paul/Minneapolis, that statement is totally untrue, and I'm guessing it would be a dumb thing to say about any city.

Wow man... think by yourself, don't pay attention to all the "popularity" thing. Grow up!

iPods suck when it comes to videos. It has to be "iPod" format which takes over an hour to convert a 30 minute video on itunes and longer on the software you have to buy to convert avi's to "iPod". Oh, but you can put them on your iPod as Quicktime but you lose sound quality and most of the time it doesn't work.

As for games... eh. Games on any MP3 player suck. That's why people stopped caring about hacking emulators and oldschool games like Diablo and Doom onto them.

As for music, you just need new headphones.

I am one person. I am not a men. If you expect me to think as one person don't refer to me as many.

And I'm not paying attention to the popularity thing, I was saying that people do. Which is why Apple prices their products higher than most people think they should.

The last statement is justification of the first statement. It's more of a general statement, but I guess it can be taken both ways.
