IMO, if a person lost their house, job, kids, parents, all other relatives and friends, personal possessions, lost all 4 limbs, went blind, deaf, and was mentally impared and burned on 99% of their body all due directly to the US government, they still wouldn't be entitled to 3 quadrillion dollars. 4 or 5 million, maybe, but sure as heck not 3 quadrillion, or even trillion or billion. That is just bulls*** greediness and lack of personal responsibility at its worst.

Nope, one dude is sueing for $3,014,170,389,176,410! Says in the first paragraph:

"Hurricane Katrina's victims have put a price tag on their suffering and it is staggering ????????? including one plaintiff seeking the unlikely sum of $3 quadrillion."

That is insane! I agree with cjd, this guy's pretty angry, but that is a ridiculous amount. I can't think of a single thing that would ever be worth three quadrillion.

Three quadrillion? Does every person, institution, and country on Earth combined even have that sum of money?

^ I guess 3 quadrillion could be a price tag for the ownership rights to a solar system containing at least 5 planets and 27 moons.

Somewhere, somebody will actually fight for this case. The plaintiffs will spend time and money on this just to be shut down, instead of doing the sensible thing like every other human being and move.

I could have told you a gaint bowl below sea level will flood.

Besides, it is not the Government's afault that the city flooded and people died. It was not intentional, and all the blame has been taken and aid has been given. These people nned to stop being so greedy.

espescially when many of the people suing most likely were given "everything they lost" by the government in the first place..
oooh, did i just say that.. [:O]

I sue him right back for refusing to listen to the analysis and engineering recommendations that the retaining walls be upgraded. Katrina was just one overblown case of "I told you so."

And 3 quadrillion is not "the mother of all numbers." Not even close.

If you're going to post your opinion about a story, could you please READ THE STORY first?

Maybe you did, and just missed this part:

Some residents may have grossly exaggerated their claims to send a message to the corps (the US Army Corps of Engineers), which has accepted blame for poorly designing the failed levees.

If the levees had been designed properly, they wouldn't have failed. It's not like a hurricane was far-fetched for that area... they should've built them right in the first place.

I know I will most likely get bashed for this, but oh well.

Even if they were designed and built correctly, how can anyone on the face of this planet guarantee that they would be able to hold back the force of a hurricane?

This might be harsh, but maybe this should be a wakeup call for those who live below sea level. If you live in a high risk area (like below sea level next to the sea, under the shadow of a volcano etc etc), expect everything to go wrong because it eventually will, whether you like it or not.

These days, suing someone is sorta like selling your house.

Let's say that you want to end up with $100. You know that you'll probably end up with less money than you start out asking, so you bump it up to $180 hoping that by the time negotiations are done, it won't go lower than $100. If you're angry and want to let everyone know, then you multiply your $180 by a number that represents how pissed you are and sue for $18000. That way, the person getting sued knows you're pissed and everyone who hears about it knows you're pissed, and maybe they won't be such hardasses when they start negotiating. THEN maybe you'll end up with $200. They will feel super-duper that they talked you down from $18000 to $200. You'll feel even better, since you were only looking to get $100, but you got TWICE that.

So this person suing for $3,000,000,000,000,000,000 could end up with $5mil. The army corps would say "whew, we got out of that OK" and the person suing is doing a happy dance because they were only expecting to get about thirty bucks.
