The world's fastest coaster will be built at the Nurburgerring in Germany. In 2009 the coaster will open to the public. The length of the track will be 1200 meters (3937 feet). The launch will be from 0 to 217km/h (134.8mph) in just 2.5 seconds! Which means the acceleration will be 2.46g

The builder of the ride will be S&S Power and the launch will be on airpressure.

I can't wait! World fastest coaster on 2,5 hours drive for me [pshades]

Oh ****!!! too bad i cant read ANYTHING.

Edit:::

for everyones benfit

More authentically it could hardly be. The strain before the start, the adrenalin, which ascends, if the traffic light jumps on green and the body, which is pressed under acceleration into the seat. Thus a running driver must feel - and so also the visitors of the Nuerburgrings will feel, if the spectacular roundabout, in the specialized jargon "Coaster" mentioned, which catapults guests on 217 km/h. To the comparison: A Formel-1-Bolide creates this not in 2.5 seconds, but needs from the conditions nearly twice as for a long time. Along the starting and goal straight lines of the Nuerburgrings this travel becomes direct the unique, genuine and lasting experience. Anywhere in the world passengers cannot let themselves be shot direct beside a racing course at such speeds. After the entrance of the passengers, which takes place in a station in the new indoor Attraction, the Coaster heads for its starting point parallel to the starting and target line on the material Grand Prix distance. The car accelerated from here on 217 km/h, drives 480 meters along the racing course and turns then in a sharp link curve. The route leads back by the boulevard and ends again in the station. Eight persons find thereby at the same time in two four-he cars place. Altogether 1.2 kilometers are put back. A quantity adrenalin including. Manufacturer of the roundabout is the company S&S power, which became generally accepted in a world-wide public bidding procedure. "S&S power is in the area of compressed air world-wide one of the prominent enterprises and had claimant Coaster very much experience", explains Dr. Walter Kafitz, managing director of the Nuerburgring GmbH. "the production of of the particulars components (among other things car, wheels, steel) is subject thereby to the German doing V standard, the German industry standard (DIN) as well as Europes standard (EN) and almost exclusively by enterprises to Germany and Europe is transferred." Acceleration with compressed air makes the highest speeds possible, is reliable, and uses little energy. Until 2009 a new experience world develops around the engine haven of the Coaster is approximately a component of the project "Nuerburgring 2009" in the Eifel, which is up-to-date in the building phase. Thus a boulevard along the starting and goal straight line, which unites weather-independently and all year round usable several offers under a roof, develops: Mark worlds of prominent car manufacturers and accessory specialists, a new indoor attraction (as mixture from Science center, museum and experience world), a Kartbahn, an indoor arena as well as a Eventhalle and a Welcome center. Additionally a modern main grandstand with 5.000 places and Business-lounge develops. A new four-star hotel with 160 rooms, the "Motorsport Resort" in the proximity of the Offroad park as well as the experience catering trade "village the Eifel" round the total offer in the region off. Up to the spring next yearly becomes in this way from the most successful racing course the world an all-season leisure and Business center approximately around engine haven and mobility. The Nuerburgring lures already now annually approx. two million visitors into the Eifel, who visit approximately 100 engine haven meetings and 200 other Events.

How can those little wheels withstand all that speed?

- sigh - It may count as a coaster that doesn't mean it is sure it's on a track and has wheels but it just goes in a flat circle and nothing more if they added stretched out airtime hills to give air but to me it's not really a coaster just a rocket/thrillride

Please find the period button, that hurt my head. [:(]

By your logic, Top Thrill Dragster shouldn't be a coaster either. After all, it's only goal is speed and height.

But at least Dragster has some element...It goes in a circle, it's like speeding down the highway or something. Still cool, and that acceleration is going to be INSAANE!

exactly!
i mean, neato for sure.. fast and tall, but the whole ride probabally lasts 10 seconds, with a 4 hour wait in line.. ...SUCKERS!!!!!!

OK, let's look beyond the crappy translation and the possibility that this thing is just an oval racetrack simulation...

Notice the trains.

This will be the first S&S air-powered coaster to not use pneumatic tires and since the guide wheels are on the inside, the track will have to be of a different type as well. Is anyone else really surprised to see the guide wheels on the inside? Will this thing have old Arrow style track?

The future could be cool, though. If those types of trains can be launched to nearly 140mph and the new track/train system holds up better than Hypersonic did, then we could see someone with deep pockets and a track record of not letting others take their records away from them (**cough, Cedar Point, cough**) use this launch system and stick a full-circuit ride on it. Imagine Millennium Force with a launch and SICK airtime over the first drop, for instance...

Rather than diss this thing for just being an oval, let's look at it this way: someone is footing the bill for an experimental prototype that could lead to something seriously cool later on.

I'm just sayin'.

I'm predicting extremely rough rides after the first few seasons.

phhht..
you're one to talk.. seeing as how you've already ridden the only 2007 coaster worth a crap like a gazillion times.. [lol][lol]
eh, you might be right about the prototype thing, but as of yet the giant rocket coasters still are really ONLY tall and fast and nothing much else, and they've had a few years to add some substance to them..

Wait... it's just an oval?

Waist of money. They should wait to build something worthwhile.

I hope the track is nothing like an Arrow track. That fast on an Arrow track is not something that sounds fun. And I wouldn't get too excited about the idea of a prototype yet. Remember, S&S/Arrow gave us X and it certainly wasn't the new wave sensation it was expected to become.

Imo i woulden't consider this a coaster but more of a thrilll ride as stated earlier by others. Montu, wildcat, magnum xl 200, maverick even the arrown loop screw coasters are considered coasters to me. Rides like v2, halfpipe, and ttd, in my book, are more of thrill rides with a track.

If this can be called a coaster, Amtrak's Sunset Limited route can be called the longest powered coaster in the USA, imo. I think this thrillride just goes to fast to remain comfortable after 1 year.

I'm really looking forward to this thing. For me it does'nt matter if it can be called "coaster" or not. The most important thing is, that this is fun... and I dare to doubt that a little because a ridy by S&S "might" be a little uncomfortable at this speed (I guess, even a B&M would be..). And even this ride is smooth, after 2 or 3 years it's only crap, unsmooth and looks like EGF[:D]. Apart from that I really believe that this ride is broken/does not work correctly/is in maintenance (I don't know the word) the most of the time.

But all in all, I'm looking forward to it: It's something new for Germany and if this ride will be good it would be a great enrichment for Germany which lacks of good coasters IMHO.
And if this thing works, I will be there, I need just 1h by car.. xD

i'm a bit nervous about this ride.. after riding kingda ka several times, i'm not sure how much farther these rides can go. i think we're comming close to the limit when it comes to speed.

I had forgotten that Powderkeg was an air launch... that's cool then, I like Powderkeg a lot. Those guide wheels are outside the track, though, so the track will still be different on the new ride.

I really don't understand why anyone would use the inside guide wheels with the U-shaped track ties... it seems like a lot of expense in steel that you wouldn't have with ties between the rails, plus I think it would have more "give and shake" than track with ties in between the rails. Have we learned nothing from the SLCs and the Arrow and Vekoma loopers?

About time Europe had real record breaker (speed/height)

When will it be Britains turn though [V]... never I fear! [lol]

dammit we need some good coasters! (not including nemesis, amazing ride IMO)
we need something really kick ass, like kingda ka, but instead of it just stopping, it should go top hat, then airtime, then break off into some incredible second half with loads of inversions ETC[launch][devilish]

Not really feasible to have a coaster of that ilk with a giant layout after the top-hat. Ride capacity would be hard to keep up and the ride would be hideously expensive. While it is possible to create such a ride, it would bankrupt any park that built it.

ADD to that the fact that there is only a handful of English parks that are allowed to build to anywhere near that height and you'll see that a ride of kingda ka or top thrills type, will just never see light of day in this country.

'Bout time someone decided to break the record... I was getting sick of Ka having a monopoly on it.

i agree... eventually if they keep trying to push the limits, the track/supports will just fail from the force and everything will come crashing down... [launch][shocked][xx(]

uhm... I doubt that, we can nowadays calculate every millisecond of the ride on g's and if the track and supports are strong enough to handle the forces. [:)]
