I'm looking for some new bands to listen to, and I was wondering if anyone with a good taste of music could reccomend any bands that pretty much meet the following:
-No very loud and crazy metal / heavy metal.
-A normal, good singer (not super high-emo voice).
-A non-emo band (this includes eyeliner bands).
-Decent guitarrists, not just chord-changing constant rhythms.
-Another important thing: I don't want guitar freaks to come in here and reccomend "Joe Satriani" or something; I want a band, not a guy showing off his guitar. I want good sounding music that is enjoyable to listen to, and not just appreciate the guitar.

I guess that's it. Also, would anyone know of a good music search engine site type thing where I could do kinda the same thing I am doing here but into a complex search engine?

Thanks.

-Tie

No, thats lame. Here are some great choices:
-Lifehouse: Great easy listening, awsome stuff, 'No Name Face' is a fantastic album.
-Arcade fire- No guitar riffs like you want, but still catchy stuff
-John Mayer has nice guitar stuff, Not his poppy stuff, maybe try 'Continuum' or 'try'.
-Cake: Comfort Eagle is a good album.
-Coldplay?

First thing that came to my mind was Muse, but I look for different criteria than you when evaluating music. Their lead singer has a unique timbre, but the keyboardist is more than competent. What do you listen to now? You could use Pandora or something to browse things it says are "similar" to what you like.

I'll try samples of some of those soon, thanks for your help.
By the way, I've already got Coldplay.[;)]

Sunset Rubdown

but if you're looking for more rock...

LIARS, Hot Springs, Black Lips, Oneida
Devendra Banhart, The Dears, Primus, MGMT

or just anything by WEEN. WEEN is always good.

How about Three Days Grace. Pretty much one of my all time favorite bands.

If you want to listen to real music that isnt solos guitarists, then it has to be Tool or A Perfect Circle. That's real music that you can appriecate and takes some serious talent to make
