I'll second that about Tool (I never got into APC); they make some really good music. Although, I think they hit their high with Aenima back in 1996. That album was nearly flawless.

now i think Kaddisfly is awsome. you might like them, some of their songs might not be what your looking for, but i think their main stuff is something you'd like. their singer is great, music is catchy(not crazy though) and they are just all around cool. :)
so thats what i recomend. hope you like it!!!

Tool reminds me of the high school music butthead everyone that did any little bit of music that chooses to do things in a complicated time signature for no reason just to make himself seem cool.

ok then, make a video of yourself preforming a 29/8 time signature... i'll do it if u dont believe i can...

tool has talent, more than you could notice probably...

although, there bassist and guitarist suck... maynard has more balls than any singer out there tho, and daney carry is simply a god...

no.. that isnt the point..
anyone will grant that they have imense SKILL at operating their instruments, and they are , to people who cant look much further past their radio , interesting i suppose.. but theres a pretenciousnes that isnt that of an artist , but that of someone whos just a douchebag who has to try really really hard to be "cool"

I've tried to get into Tool and have never been able to, I pretty much agree with Coasterkidmwm on that one, but Queens of the Stone Age is great stuff, so I'll second (or third) that recommendation. Also, I know you said you didn't want just guitar music, but you might like Buckethead. He's an amazing composer whether you want to appreciate the guitar or not, and actually plenty of his songs are pretty simple in terms of the guitar parts, just great songwriting. Here's one of my favorites:

Well, to me Tool just have this aura about them where they try to be way too artistic it seems. Especially Maynard who has taken it to the point of weirdness. But I do think they make some good songs; not neccesarily their newer stuff however, as noted in a previous post.

Tool blows nut. They are talented and do some intense music stuff, but in the end, the music isnt good. Just like Mars Volta, they used to be amazing (Deloused, Tremulaunt) and then they started getting to technical and forgetting that they are making music.

Yeah, even if you're not looking for guitar-appreciation music, Too Many Humans by Buckethead is a fantastic song. The entire thing is guitar, but you should listen to it and see what I mean, I think you'd like it.

I say listen to anything from The Friday Night Boys!

By far my favorite band. Most played CD in iTunes for me.
Also look for some of these songs...

Rooney - "When Did Your Heart Go Missing?"
Sherwood - "Middle of the Night"
Every Avenue - "Picking Up The Pieces"
The Tender Box - "Mister Sister"
Test Your Reflex - "Pieces of the Sun"
Powerspace - "Powerspace Snap Bracelet"
We the Kings - "Check Yes Juliet"
The Juliana Theory - "We're At the Top of the World"
Linkin Park - "Shadow of the Day"
Rooney - "Should've Been After You"
Alexz Johnson - "Anyone But You"

And my favorites,
The Friday Night Boys - "Lights Out" and "Thursday Night Pregame"

you should check out falling down by atreyu.
Look into Velvet Revolver. They have some good songs, but most of them I find boring. Slither gets a mention though.

Just browse around myspace though. They have a ton of songs to listen to.

Also go onto kroq.com and you can go through some of the top rated songs at the moment on that station, then like I said go to myspace or itunes and browse through more of their songs there.
