With only two legit matchups, the judging should go fairly quickly.
If it does, and since there aren't any more challenges, would the next round start sooner?

(hoping for some love on a wildcard spot... I was the only one who even attempted the last challenge, remember? ;-)

A note concerning the ratings:
Please keep in mind that these ratings are my personal opinions combined with marks i seemed fit. Some rating might be short, but that is because some rides just didn't have anything bad to say about it, and also nothing exceptional good to mention either.

alton_ vs Kevin Brennan

alton_ - Radiohead
Tech ????????? Track is very smooth in the most places, but some of the inversion tops are a bit quirky. Support work is well above average.
Adren ????????? The problem here wasn't the lack of speed, but the ending was quite long. Perhaps the helix should have been place somewhere earlier in the track.
Orig ????????? The far dive loop had a very nice approach, but the choice of elements and their order could've been better. The track also missed that real B&M flow.
8.5 ????????? 6.5 ????????? 6
7.00

Kevin Brennan ????????? Alien
Tech ????????? Good and smooth trackwork. The dive loop?????????s top radius is too big. You stay inverted too long. Then overall supports were good, but what?????????s with those loop supports, they look awful. The inclined loop could've used more inclination.
Adren ????????? The beginning is insane, especially that kick-butt barrelroll. After that it sinks a bit, but after the dive loop the adrenaline kicked back in.
Orig ????????? The element line-up is very good. Theming was nice, but could've been better executed, the diveloop building didn't really add much. And perhaps including the station into the ?????????star-box-thing????????? would?????????ve spiced up the overall feel.
8 - 7.5 - 7.5
7.67

Austin vs Mikado

Austin ????????? Frankenstrat
Tech ????????? Trackwork in the first half is ok, but near the ending it really gets bumpy. Also, the prelift barrelroll would?????????ve been nicer it it was itself descending, not a little drop and then a flat roll. The zero-G-roll was awkward. It first level-off, then rolled, and then did another drop. It should a hill with a twist combined. The corkscrew were very good, real B&M style. Then the last brake just before the station, the train stops there which is odd, because only 2 rows are on the actual brakerun. How are people going to be evacuated or trains inspected?
Adren ????????? The tophat was taken very slow, the train sped up later, but after the MCBR, the speed was down again.
Orig ????????? You got some neat element line-up, but the tricktrack thing didn't work out. Apart from the weird zero-G-roll, the ride certainly has a B&M touch to it.
6.5 ????????? 5 - 7
6.17

Mikado ????????? DQ

yoshifreak vs coreyml

yoshifreak ????????? DQ

Coreyml ????????? Thunderhorse
Tech ????????? First drop is really weird, it looks like something you?????????d see on a woodie. The rest of the ride is mediocre with some nasty bumps. Supports are average.
Adren ????????? The speed is average across the ride, not boring, but also not insanely fast. The guitar-loop sandwich was funny.
Orig ????????? The track looks really like a B&M, it unfortunately doesn't have the power. Also, the guitar-loop might be fun, it also looks very ugly from the outside.
6.5 ????????? 6.5 ????????? 7
6.67

vid_w vs Coasterkidwmw

vid_w ????????? DQ

Coasterkidwmw ????????? Aqua
Tech ????????? The track overall is very smooth. But what?????????s with those tall corkscrews? Really odd. The supports are very good.
Adren ????????? The speed in the ride is very good, the only slow part is the helix, which was kind of a downer. The track interaction was amazing and the loop around the guitar was really cool.
Orig ????????? If found the sweeping turn between elements a bit cheap, but apart from that and the weird corcks, this really looked like a B&M with just the right elements in the right order.
8.5 ????????? 9.5 ????????? 8
8.67

unfortunate smiley vs Z00Z3R

unfortunate smiley ????????? downward spiral
Tech ????????? Trackwork is well and smooth. Supportwork is average.
Adren ????????? Speed is very good overall, nothing special to add.
Orig ????????? The first drop is very nice. The diveloop-loop combination was a good turnaround. The overbanks in the 2nd half were kind of lame, not as intended I guess.
7.5 ????????? 7.5 ????????? 8.5
7.83

Z00Z3R ????????? DQ

cjd vs minicoopertx

cjd ????????? Letterbomb
Tech ????????? Smooth track and good supports, nothing wrong or exceptional.
Adren ????????? Great speed in the beginning, and the loop after the mcbr really kept the momentum.
Orig ????????? A lot of original elements and combination, unfortunately this goes at cost of the B&M feel, as far as I'm concerned, this could be an intamin.
8 ????????? 8.5 ????????? 6.5
7.67

minicoopertx ????????? Juke Box Hero
Tech ????????? Trackwork had issues with banking and radii, and although I cannot prove it, I have reason to believe you used prefab element. (because this is just a hunch I will not deduce points). The supports are poor.
Adren ????????? The loop-cobra-loop combo is nice and keep the adrenaline rushing, but after that it's really slow.
Orig ????????? Apart from having no corkscrews, this had B&M written over almost all of it.
5 ????????? 5.5 ????????? 8
6.17

guitarplayer673 vs Jakizle

guitarplayer ????????? DQ

Jakizle ????????? Shoot to Thrill
Tech ????????? Trackwork is good, the zero-G-roll was bit too stretched. The supports were average
Adren ????????? The use of the guitar was awesome, the speed is very good throughout the course, the close call keep it really up. The only downer is the straight track before the dive loop, perhaps some form of theming would?????????ve helped it.
Orig ????????? I would call the the best example between being original and keeping a realistic B&M feel, very well done.
8 ????????? 7.5 ????????? 9.5
8.33

Round 4 Pairings:
Kevin Brennan vs. Austin
coreyml vs. Coasterkidwmw
unfortunate_smiley vs. cjd

I have reason to believe you used prefab element. (because this is just a hunch I will not deduce points).

I'm just wondering... what's the difference if prefab elements are used?
Would a person who makes their elements in elementary, then uses them in their track be given points off?

If I build an element in some other coaster that I like, and save it for later, should that matter?

A person makes an element with elementary and includes it in their track, no biggie.
Back when I had a PC, I used elementary a lot and when I got an inversion or helix or some other element that I liked, I'd save it. I moved those files to the Mac when I switched over.

I guess what I'm asking, why would it be points off to use a tool when all the other tracks are tooled? Does the fact that I used the tool several months ago really matter?

If you had stated that the track must be hand-built, then I could see subtracting points... but then every track entered would be much lower in score.

...and yes, I know you didn't subtract points, but you said it was because you "couldn't prove" that I used prefabs. I'm just confused why it would be points off at all.

Maybe from the site. But hyyyper knew about everything. Why would alton have been mentioned to round 4 if he wasn't going to be in it?

"The dive loop?????????s top radius is too big. You stay inverted too long. The inclined loop could've used more inclination."

I don't necessarily understand why you took off for these features. It's obvious that the dive loop, given the controlled forces, was done that way on purpose. Also, what's wrong with having an inclined loop between vertical and the tilt of those seen on real B&M coasters? Maybe you don't think the dive loop is B&M's style, and I can see that...I myself think maybe it's slightly stretching it. However, having an inclined loop halfway between that of a real one and a vertical loop is just a small modification, still completely within the B&M style. You seem like you took off points for people having elements and layouts that are very similar to those seen on B&M coasters, then also took off points for original modifications like those I mentioned.

I know it's an opinion thing, but I'm confused as to your logic and basis.

Sheesh, hyyyper, you docked me in originality for being too original? Oh, well, that's what I get for purposefully neglecting the company's traditional style.

minicoopertx, if you use elementary you make the elements yourself. If you use the prefab elements that came with the game, it wouldn't be your BT i'm judging.

dcs, if everybody would say that everything in their track was done on purpose, they all would have nearly perfect tracks. And about that inclined loop, i know there nothing wrong with any amount of inclination, but IMO the loop would've been more fun if more inclined.

cjd, in originality i judged how close everybody was original while keeping the B&M style, Jakizle's ride is a good example of that.

and the stuff with alton_, if he is still banned when the next round starts, i will mail him the template. He might be banned from the site, but he's not banned from the contest.

I guess this is just a difference in semantics, then.
If something COMES WITH THE GAME, I think it should be fair to use it. The exact same set of elements are available to everyone.

The tools, however, are NOT available to everyone and provide a very, VERY uneven playing field between those who have them and those who don't. Somehow, this is still seen as fair, even though I was competing with my months-old elementary files against someone who custom-FVD'd his track for this round.

I'm not bitching about that, since I knew that's how the contest would go and I entered anyway. I'm just saying that it seems pretty messed up that it's fair for some players to have a huge advantage over others before the round even starts, but it's not fair to use items that come with the standard game, which are available to everyone.

My body isn't a temple. It's an amusement park.

Okay, so the message I'm getting from that track is that you like to see already-existing elements used with creative sequencing and style more than you like exploratory non-traditional elements. Is that about right? (I'm just trying to understand your rating style here, so that I can do better in the next round.)
