Even though I'm not a huge fan of the coaster itself, I think Son of beast has a pretty cool station dropout.

I just wanna mention I hate the term "Station dropout." Why can't we call this section of track a prelift?

Sometimes it doesnt go to a lift. It could be a launch, an elevator, etc...

Station dropout can only mean track dropping out of the station. It's universal.

Nemesis Inferno, what a prelift that is! Casual right drop, then wham! into a mist filled tunnel, ice cold breeze in your face then a tight swoop that slams you up into the lift. Best drop out ever. You simply cant beat it. It does everything a drop out needs to.

Although thats only talking from rides i've been on. As for rides i havent been on, i would quite easily say Hades.

Well, it should be station exits. A universal term for elevator, lift, drop, launch.......

My favorite station exit to date is:

Uhm, no it shouldn't only be station exit. We're talking about some layout that the track actually does before launches and lifts...

4-Skyrush | 5-Iron Rattler | 6-X2 | 7-Kingda Ka

That makes sense but the term station dropout just sounds so weird IMO...whatever.

I don't really have a favorite, but out of the ones I've been on I guess Ghost Rider was the best.

I know I'm not really following suit but when the Cable Lift starts to pull you on Millineum Force its the coolest feeling ever, especially in the back seat. =D.

thats funny, i have an interest for them as well. ha! but i think that the best ones are on most of the B&M coasters, just the plain little U-turn, like the one on medusa at SFDK.
So, my friend came up to me the other day and asked if I wanted a frozen banana, and I said no, but I want a normal banana later, so... yea.

Persoanly, I don't see any need for a pre drop. I mean, look at most B&Ms. They have the pre drop element, but it serves no part. It's almost like B&M just wanted to waste more money on adding an unneded element.

Some have one right out of the station (i.e. Scream!), and some have one in some wierd place in the layout (i.e. Tatsu). I don't get why it's needed.

What do you mean in a weird place like tatsu? please clarify

They are needed for layout purposes. Those simple turning prelifts totally change where the lift is, which changes where the drop is, which changes where the whole ride is.

Xpress, a turn between two brake segments doesnt count as an "unneeded element". The train needs to get back to the station... Stop trying to sound so impressive.

Umm, it's a friking uneeded element.

Look at the predrp on Goliath at SFOG:

Oh, that's right. There isn't one.

You're not the designer. You know nothing about what those drop outs do.

They could help for capacity increase, rather than a train creeping to the lift on a barely sloped turn. They provide a slightly exhilerating impression on riders. And like alton said, they give nice flexibility on where to put the lift and the rest of the layout in correspondance.

Goliath doesn't have a predrop? That means it didn't need one.

There isn't one because they don't need one for layout purposes on Goliath.

what a dumb argument, some rides have dropouts, some are cool and some are lame, leave it at that

^Hmm, lemme think about that.

No.

Predrops make absolutely no sense whatsoever. I mean, you can place a lift wherever, and have just flat track to it. I get no thrills from them. I see no advantages from them.
