Even though I am not a judge in this contest or even a participant, I think the downside of using those pre-made elements is that they are old, poorly built and built by someone else.

I personally think that anyone should be able to use them in any contest seeing as how they come with the program. However, if it is obvious that you used those pre-built track sections, I would only expect a lower score.

Also with Bootcamp, there should really be none of this "but I'm on a Mac and can't use elementary or any other tool" complaints. A 'tooled' track does not mean it will be any better than a handbuilt track either.

itll be smoother

IMO, AHG is the lazy way out of stuff.
using it means that there will be about 4X more "nodes" just plopped into the ride to make it silky smooth

idk what fvd means...

Tourney format... there were only 7 pairings, so the highest-rated losing track won a free spot into the next round.

Please don't make assumptions about something that you obviously have not used or even tried to understand.

Your statement is 100% wrong.

1) NOTHING about using the AHG is due to lazyness.

2) Using AHG has little to no effect on how smooth a track is. That is totally dependent on how the track is BEFORE you use the AHG on it.

"Force Vector Design"

And if tooling is "lazy" you better start writing letters to all the current companies making the real ones. Only their tools are more complex and offer better results. I'm pretty sure B&M do not "hand build" their designs. ;)

oh im sure that they use heartlining tools and i thank them for it. when yall use ahg, it is obvious and makes for a smooth fun layout.

i have used ahg for a couple elements and it takes simple and complicated elements and fixes them to have little or no horizontal Gs - which takes time to do by hand.
Im assuming AHG is an FVD tool, ive just never heard fvd before

I am hereby shutting my mouth about this now

cjd, in originality i judged how close everybody was original while keeping the B&M style, Jakizle's ride is a good example of that.

Okay, so the message I'm getting from that track is that you like to see already-existing elements used with creative sequencing and style more than you like exploratory non-traditional elements. Is that about right? (I'm just trying to understand your rating style here, so that I can do better in the next round.)

You are right. If the assigment is to build a B&M Looper and people come with Norwegan loops and 95* drops for example, they would get a lower originality score than someone who puts in a loop and a cobra.
I know the originality isn't the right word for it. Realism would've been a better name for it.

Well, alton_ was originally banned for helping someone with his track, but then the reason became because he badmouthed Oscar a few pages back.

No badmouthing Oscar works it's just the particular style of badmouthing was not good. Oscar after the Mikado/Vid-W/Alton_ incident was magically placed on a spammer email list so he wasn't thrilled about that and I received ridiculous IM's from him. He had it coming and the site is better off with one less emo retard.

Let's wait until you know what you're talking about before you start typing, shall we?

Boot camp only works for new Macs built with Intel chips.
I have a G5 Mac, pre-Intel. It won't run boot camp.

The other flaw in your logic is assuming that someone who has an Intel Mac would contaminate it with Windows just to run some building tool.
A good number of people buy Macs in order to AVOID Windows.

I dont want to add to the insane amount of complaining towards hyyyper in this thread, but I must have some input on this subject: If someone is banned from the site, they should definitely not be allowed to participate in a contest. The guy was banned for a reason and needs to suffer from it. He's being pampered.

So buy a newer one? [dunno]

Almost everyone has the choice of whether to buy/use a Mac or Windows based computer. Given that, I don't see where this huge advantage comes from?

Also, the technical part of the rating is only worth 1/3 of the total score. Just because someone can use Elementary doesn't guarantee a good or even a great score. It takes some actual thought and trial and error to build something that is technically sound and also exciting and original at the same time. In my opinion it is a lot easier to build an exciting and original track by hand than with tools.

But all of these thoughts should probably be reserved for another debate thread, so I'll just leave it at that. [:D]

Sure... I'll just spend the money that was going to be for my summer coaster trips and spend it on a computer to replace the one I have, which is still perfectly good. Yeah, right.

Please, PLEASE tell me that this was a joke and you aren't really that stupid.

Let's say you've decided to have a car race with your buddies. You gather them up at the track and you notice that one of them is driving a Porsche, one is driving a pickup, and one is driving an old VW Beetle.
Every one of them has the choice what car to buy, so there's no huge advantage for the guy in the Porsche, right?

I'm not debating the unfairness of the contest. Like I said, I knew that I'd eventually be up against toolers, I knew it wouldn't be a level playing field, and I joined up anyway. I did it because it was FUN, not because I expected to win.
What I'm contesting is your statement that there's no advantage.

So I heard there's a PC > Mac war going on.

...yawn.

My opinion: PC better than Mac.

You saw the utter piles of crap Alton and CJD put up. Not even close imitating the style at all. I made a good 75% of my ride by hand. It's doable.

OMG, I don't use a computer at home... I have a graphing calculator and it doesn't run No Limits. That's not fair!

OMG, my computer is from 1980 and won't run No Limits tools. How unfair!

Oh well. Life's unfair. I get over it; do you?
