I need a bit of help here. I am shopping for a pretty powerful laptop that is $1500 or under. While I REALLY want the Alienware M15x my choices at the moment is a Dell Inspiron 1420, a Dell Vostro 1500, a gatway M-151XL, and an Alienware M15x if I get rich quick. I am not in the mood to get an HP. If any other ideas come to mind please tell me.

What I need:
2.2ghz processor or higher.(Dual Core)
3gb of RAM or higher
160gb HD or higher
I do not care about the graphics card at all.
15" screen

I will be using it as a DJ computer and a desktop replacement for when not on the road. It will be loaded with audio software and music so that is why my video card doesn't matter. If anyone can help that would be great.

Regards,
RRollergod

You sir need to build yourself a computer or have someone else build you one. Finding a PC for that budget with those memory stats will be damn near impossible, and most prefabbed comp's with those memory stats would have an unnecessarily good video card. And if you must have a prebuilt PC, Id suggest checking out Acer. Theyre media laptops are quite good for DAW's and dj'ing in general, though you may have to go through a bit of a hassle with downloading drivers, patches, etc. to avoid the possibility of glitches while playing live.

Also, I'm not a Mac guy in the least, but you may want to look into getting a Macbook or Macbook Pro...there's a reason many of the top dj's use them. [:)]

For one, you can't build your own laptop, I wish I could. Also, I am not a big fan of Acer's at all. I hate them because of their poor customer service, and to the Mac comment. For me it is just not practical and I can't afford it.

For a laptop, I think you might have trouble finding that good of a processor for under that price with all those other specifications.

Also keep in mind, if you go above 3gb of ram you will need to get Vista/XP 64 Bit to actually use it all.

I personally think this one would be fine; http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 3815682941

-Intel C2D
-3gb of ram
-Lots of space for music and pr0n

Black Apple MacBook, 2 GB of RAM, 250 GB hard drive, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor:

$1499.99

White Apple MacBook, 2 GB of RAM, 160 GB hard drive, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor:

$1299.99

That's under what you specified as the price you're willing to go, you can use Logic Express or Logic which are insanely good audio programs..

I think you can't afford not to get it.

FYI, you can upgrade the RAM to 4 GB on Apple's site, and Apple while still stupid expensive for RAM is QUITE A BIT cheaper then Dell and Gateway, among others. I don't understand why OEMs charge so much for RAM, it's stupid.

With the 4 GB of RAM it's $200 more. And I don't think you realize that 2 GB of RAM is far more then enough for most users.

By the way, it's not a good idea to have 3 GB of RAM, because if you do the RAM cards don't match. Performance is enhanced when the RAM cards are the same, basically, 2GB + 1 GB is going to run slower than 1GB + 1GB + 1GB, but most laptops only have 2 RAM slots, so generally it's 2 512MBs, 2 1GBs or 2 2GBs.
