According to MSN News, Windows XP Will ofically be out of production by midnight, the 6 year old OS will still be the one I will use. But before all of the PC freaks have a nervous breakdown, you can still buy it from second-hand shops until January of 2009 when those are phased out too. And Microsoft will still make a version of XP for cheap laptops. I am just as sad as any PC user would be but, (as would my big bro would say) Microsoft has moved on to bigger and better things and all those babies out there who cant take a change can just cry to their mommies. Seriously they can just grow up.

Anyhoo, here is the news detail http://tech.msn.com/microsoft/articlepcw.aspx?cp-documentid=8354050>1=40000

GO CRAZY DISCUSSING!

The production will be done but support is scheduled to last for another 19 years according to a statement put out couple days ago.

Yeah, not much point in still producing XP when either; Everyone already has it or should/could/would be buying Vista anyways.

Yeah i dont know what people are so fussed about, why would anyone be *crying*, as those who have XP have it still, and can use it if they want, knowing that it'll still be suported

Those who want 'windows' with their new computer will get vista, and wont ever need to worry about an older os being produced or not

As Microsoft moves on to a newer OS, it may not be possible to play some older games on the newer OS. I have noticed some of my Windows 98 games do not play well on Windows XP, for example Falcon 4.0. Most Windows 95 and earlier games won't play on XP. So as Microsoft progresses, our games will finally fade away, if they are not updated by the producers. Of course, if we keep the older OS such as Windows 95, 98, ME, or XP we can play the older games. That's the cost of progress.

I would have thought that Open Falcon or the various other versions that have been community supported would fix any performance issues that are OS related. Then again I fly in Lockon so what do I know [lol]

In relation to older games... its a crying shame really. I remember Red Alert 2 LAN not working properly because of something in XP. You almost wonder if they can come out with a win 95/98/2000 Emulator similar to what they got for classic NES games.

Vista is simply the ME of these days. Yes, it has that many problems. More people are migrating back to XP due to it being solid, and well, they are still releasing patches and updates for XP so I don't see it leaving the horizon anytime soon. It's kinda like when NT production was stopped. They still supported it for another 8 years or so, as people hated the original Win2000. IMO, I don't see XP going anywhere for at least 10-15 more years, and perhaps in that time M$ will send out a more improved OS for us to try out and rip apart.

I for one think that Vista is a decent platform. It is a heck of a lot better than Win98 was. Yes, there are some obvious things that need to be ironed out (OMG like networking with other XP machines...............), but give it time and it will be just as good as XP.

As for older games, if I can still play the original Duke Nukem (which is contained on one single 3.5inch floppy) on XP, then any other game can be played. Just do the research and you will find fixes or workarounds to get those old games to work.

1 Major problem.

Large corporations i.e. Banks, insurance companies etc????????? now has to buy the new updated windows licenses for new builds when just loading old XP stacked OS on these machines. IOW Pay more for the same shiz. Remember that Microsoft licenses are only backwards compatible.

Absa (Barclays) here by us just recently migrated from NT to XP and I was there for the darn lengthy process to boot. They won't plan on going vista anytime soon.

I personally have no problem with Vista. It got a bad name when it was released, but SP1 really patched it up. But I can't wait for Windows 7 next year!

Vista is ok. I haven't had any big problems. Only problem I had it booting up taking forever but I fixed that and now my laptop boots faster than this site's server.

Well, since your site is hosted on a Commodore 64, that ain't saying much.
