Hypercoasters

Hey all...I'm currently writing a paper on how language and reality interact in our culture. My example on how they interact is hypercoasters (Yes I got it to work). Essentially I explained how the term hypercoaster was created and brought into language and that formed reality by more and more people wanting and building them. This is turn has caused some to argue what a hypercoaster really is due to gray areas like Mr. Freeze, Xcelerator, Manhattan Express, etc. Those rides that are over 200 feet but are not the traditional style hypercoaster. This has shaped language by having us create new terms like hyperwoodie, mini hypers, hyper loopers, etc.

I now need to site sources and have already used ACE's ROLLERCOASTER! Magazine as a reference. I'd like to use a topic on here as a pool for evidence. All I really would like is for anyone to tell about what they consider to be a hypercoaster, why, and most importantly, the effect that hypercoasters have had on where we are today in the coaster industry and how different styled rides have allowed us to create more terms like gigacoaster and stratacoaster.

A hypercoaster to me is any nonlooping coaster that has a lift hill. If it has loops, its a hyperlooper. If it is launched its just launched. Its not hyper launched or anything. Unless its 400 ft then its strata.

for me a hyper coaster is:
A non launched and nonlooping coaster between 200 and 299ft height...with 300ft its a giga coaster

I would consider a hyper to be anything with a drop OR height exceeding 200 feet but not 300 feet. This, to me, would include rides which may not be 200 feet in height, but have drops which are as high and they can in some cases feature inversions (I would consider Steel Phantom a hyper even before its inversions were removed).

To me, a hyper coaster refers to a specific style, mainly that of B&M, Arrow, and Morgan. Intamin mega coasters are their own unique style, since they feature more low to the ground turns, cable lifts, and so on.

Giga and Strata are the only terms I would assign specific height values to.

I would consider Steel Eel to be a hyper coaster, eve though it is 150' tall.

I guess the thing that would really define hyper coaster for me is:

A steel coaster with the feeling of height on multiple hills, not much variation in hill sizes, an overall "gigantic" feeling, and few low to the ground turns.
