Six Flags Magic Mountain officials confirmed plans to add a wooden roller coaster in 2009 with details on track specifications, location and theme likely to come in September.

Six Flags Chief Executive Mark Shapiro mentioned during a speech in June before the American Coaster Enthusiasts that the Valencia amusement park would be getting a Great Coasters International ( GCI ) woodie themed to the upcoming ??????Terminator Salvation?????? movie.

Opening in May 2009, ??????Terminator Salvation?????? stars Christian Bale in the fourth installment of the sci-fi franchise, directed this time by McG.

Magic Mountain has not added a new roller coaster since the flying Tatsu in 2006, opting for a $10-million upgrade to the troubled X coaster this year. Since 2006, the ??????extreme park?????? has removed the wooden Psyclone coaster, steel Flashback coaster and Freefall thrill ride.

I'll take my chances and be there.

Why a Woodie? They removed one of the worst wood coasters ever built named Psyclone and they already have Colossus. Seems like the money could be better spent somewhere else, for instance on a ?????????Dark Ride????????? or on a Steel Coaster which draws the crowds? A wood coaster, now Thats so 1900?????????s.

nerd rage.

This is going to be a GCI wooden coaster, built the same way as psyclone.

more nerd rage.

it wasnt, it was a charlie dinn ride, basically a predecessor to custom coasters, a great ride when it opened, and for a couple years after.. as far as that dork pointing out that it will be built the same way he means like a REAL wooden coaster, built nail by nail, board by board the way they ought to be on the land it will occupy
if they had announced a prefab i'd just forget about going back to magic mountain and save up for a trip back east.
as far as theming goes, i could care less, wooden coasters DON'T need THEMING. they are already themed as "real rollercoasters"

How come? Prefabs look like they'd be pretty fun, with good airtime. GCIs are fun too, but you'd forget all about a park; what's wrong with Prefabs?

i agree, they look like fun, but i wouldnt go out of my way.. they just dont draw me like the real deal.. i wouldnt be this excited about it and i'd wait until either the off season or even a few seasons up to ride it.. everthing people say "good " about those posers are about how NOT like a wooden coaster they are.. in this case i'm going to plan the spring and summer around it's grand opening
like you'd never get me to go out of my way for a universal park, and cedar point ? noooo . but , wisconsin dells or , holiday world.. , lake compounce of course, and now, i have an excuse to keep driving north past knott's !

you will ride el toro, i shall ride rolling thunder as well, burt to be honest if i make it that far east that park will be the last place i will go
if there's time left over after going to new york to ride the cyclone and a visit to seabreeze park, and penn. is completely out of the question , and i already have a six flags season pass or it's free.. maybe.. ..

This isn't debatable. All you're doing in New York/New Jersey is riding El Toro.

I'll make a deal. We'll go to Coney to ride the Cyclone all day one day. However, you have to pay the plane ticket yourself.

lol, Rolling Thunder is absolutely horrible... painfully rough with potholes everywhere, especially noticeable if you don't sit in the very front... very few spots of airtime, or none at all sometimes. Slow pacing over overly wide hills, and an exceedingly boring ending.

I don't care whether ET is wooden or not...it's a really good ride. Contrary to what you suggest, ET not seeming like a wooden ride is not the only thing people say. People generally praise ET for being a great experience, and sometimes note that it doesn't feel like a wooden ride. I rarely hear that though, as most are too busy noticing the incredibly airtime, pacing, and wildness through much of the ride to care. Let it warm up and ride in the front at night and you're in for an even more serious treat.

I'll leave it at that though since you're reply is more logical than your initial post IMO. I can see you liking what you call "real" roller coasters better, but ride ET or another of Intamin's woodies before you judge it as being nothing special as it seems you are.

So, my friend came up to me the other day and asked if I wanted a frozen banana, and I said no, but I want a normal banana later, so... yea.

Maybe...god forbid...it will have a swooping turn, a turnaround, AND a station fly through...Maybe GCI will go Gravity Group style and use steel supports to make a terminator theme...haha
