May 16 could be the last day to ride Speed - The Ride in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Sahara Hotel & Casino is scheduled to close that day, after having operated since 1952. The owners say the iconic casino on the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip is no longer economically viable as a business. It's expected that the Premier launch coaster from 2000 will cease operation that day as well, if not sooner.

The loss of Speed - The Ride would mark the second roller coaster to be lost in recent years from that end of the Strip. High Roller, at the top of the Stratosphere tower, closed in 2005.

this sucks :(

It was the best coaster in Vegas. Then Desperado, and Canyon Blaster. The second launch was a surprise for me. I really liked it, but I can't see this custom-built coaster being installed anywhere else, sadly... :/

Chickenbowl, Desperado isn't in Vegas, it's like a couple hundred miles away near the California border.

this is why i think
someone needs to buy a island and make a theme park that isnt for new rides, but for rides that dont have homes and need a home
like the classic woodies, steel, new rides that never really had a chance in the park they were in that closed after 2 seasons...

if i win the loto i am so doing this
and this would be the first thing i have installed :D
and add more scenery to it :) like mist lights, and music...

It is 38 miles away, not a couple hundred miles. and I got it on the same trip, and is in a crappy casino, so I count it. Its a half hour away anyway.

I would rather go spend 40 bucks to get into some park rather then pay $7 or $8 dollars to ride a coaster in Vegas. Just saying.
