Can anyone help. How do you create a mask (with the dotted outline) for a new car texture from scratch (NOT CHANGING THE ORIGINAL) ie. a blank piece of paper? And how do you tell the mask where it is to be placed on the car? I asume you would use the same program for both these tasks, but what program? The tutorials on the digitalexperiment website don't really help, all they tell you is how to change the current texture file with Paint or Photoshop etc. so you are limited to the shape of the current masks, and they don't seem to show the dottet outline of the masks either. Please help. I'm sure somebody must know how it's done.

The way the simulator 'reads' the image files is that it looks for an area located between select coordinates and places it on a face.

For example, if the texture on the wheel cover of a B&M Invert is located in the top-left of your image, say [0,20]x[0,20]. If you color it red, the wheel cover will appear red.

So if you take a good look at an existing cartexture and experiment, you'll see that it is the easiest way to make your custom cartexture

Yeah I've tried that before but but it doesn't show the outlines so it's difficult to know where you can paint to, what the borders are etc.

What I would like to know is for example, if a car has never had a texture made in the first place, how would you do this, what program is used to show the blank image of the actual car and work out the shapes of the masks and where to put them.

Just one example, if you wanted to cover the whole car in a web design then add smaller pics on the car in different places.

You can start with a transparant image and draw some lines on them. Then you check in the sim how it turned out, and you adapt the image untill you get all the lines right.
It's not easy, but it's the only way to do it.

You could of course also download the texture templates that you'll find on the dev-site (www.nolimitscoaster.de).
