BREAKING NEWS

Image

Major theme parks that include Six Flags Magic Mountain and Cedar Fair Owned Knotts Berry Farm are currently threatened by the major California wild fires.

Knotts Berry Farm currently has a major fire that is about 15 miles away with wind in the range of 50 to 70 miles per hour pushing the fire west towards Knotts Berry Farm.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is currently surrounded by the fire but has not been hit yet. However for safety precautions, the theme park is closed today.

The Sylmar fire has currently burned 600 mobile homes in the vicinity of Six Flags Magic Mountain and has 0% containment due to the extreme winds and the self created weather by the fire. Water drops and fire retardant drops are being conducted in hopes of stopping the fire but there seems no end in sight.

The Corona fire as it's called is threatening Knotts Berry farm, but not as serious of a threat like Magic Mountain currently is. This fire is closer to more heavily populated areas and has a much better barrier between the fire and the theme park and is unlikely to be affected by the fire. However warnings have been issued for those with breathing problems since the ash and smoke makes it difficult to breathe.

Stay tuned to CoasterCrazy.com for any updates on the effects this fire might have on the theme parks.

I thought SFMM was surrounded by rock mountains and Knott's by an enourmous city.

It's not like those places are in a forest or something, they'll be fine and if the fire comes any closer to the parks, they can allways tear down anything that can burn in a 300 feet radius around the park.

magic mountain is in an area that would normally burn every couple years on its own if it hadn't been developed, the sort of brush there is not only flammable much of it encourages fire by releasing gasses when they burn. corona has the same sort of vegetation, but more dense. that's A LOOONG ways from buena park, which isnt a big city, but that part of orange county is all concrete for many miles in all directions.. thoise fires wont get near there.. promise.. last years fires down here were close enough to see from my window, and i was completely safe..

I doubt the fire will get to Knotts. Even if the fire does head towards that direction, it will hit disneyland first lol.

Last time i checked, the sylmar fire was about 10 miles away from six flags magic mountain. I don't know about now..

Just because of those wildfires and high winds, SFMM was closed at 12 today. I arrived today after a 2,5 hour detour at 12:30 at SFMM to hear this news... [:(!] We had to take a detour because they closed down the I-5 that morning and afternoon. The way return had double the traffic jams than we went through, and we didn't want to get back through like 4-5 hours of irritation...
We really had the idea that we were going to strand there. After resting and handing around there we decided to take the drive back to LA. But apparently they opened the I-5 again around 5-6pm and the biggest fires were gone. Which saved us 4-5 hours of annoyance! (yay!)

I'm hoping that SFMM will stay open tomorrow. Since i've heard it had been scheduled to open tomorrow, but I dunno what the weather is going to do with this weather. We have some some small mini fires on the way back next to the I-5 but I don't think that's going to threaten SFMM.

Here's a bunch of photo's from what we've seen on the road. oscar, Feel free to use them if you want. [:)]

Image
Early in the morning, it doesn't look good for my visit...

Image
Big trucks heading towards the fire meanwhile we were being redirected off the highway.

Image
The 118 was right through some fog. As you see, not normal fog xD

Image
It's clears up a little bit tho...

Image
Traffic Jam on the 23... 7 miles long.

Image
Another traffic jam on the 126... Another 10 miles long.

Image
On the way back around 5:45, the I-5 was open again.

Image
Still foggy around SFMM tho. I wonder how it looks tomorrow.

Image
There's still something burning down there...

Image
More fog. Great, Just what we needed!

Image
Still pretty serious tho

Image
And back around LA it clears a bit up again

Image
Leaving the more dense fog behind us

I'm really wondering how it will look tomorrow. Stay tuned [:)]

reminds me of the wildfire in Colorado a few years back aroung the Saint Isabel state park

i was up there on a summer camp trip with my scout troup (wen still in it) and we (and the whole town of Rye) had to be evacuated because the wildfire was only about 10 miles away and was coming straight for us.

Mom couldn't care less if ghostrider would burn up. [lol] She got a bleeding nose after a ride with me backseat on this woody. I laughed my ass of the whole ride just for mom's response [lol]
It's a great woody, but still Tonnerre is better Imo [;)]
