Since applications are opening up soon, I decided I would write a little about Ride Operations at Cedar Point?????????

Processing in day before opening?????????
I was really excited! I just finished receiving all my manuals and my uniform when I was to head over to Wildcat (Ride #1). I was told to arrive at the ride several hours before opening the next day. I then went to my room????????? My room mates were cool except we live in a very small cubical.

Training?????????
They couldn't make it much easier to run the rides. Some are slow, some fast paced. Some with 10 other people some by your self. Either way anyone could run a ride. To train you fill out paperwork and begin physical training on the ride. Position by position you learn the entire ride. To operate controls on some coasters and rides you must take a visual boards test.

Hours?????????
I have worked from 8 hours to 18 hours in one day. Yes, the hours are long but the job can be rewarding and fun!

Overall?????????
I recommend it! I personally took a lot out of this job. You will get to work with some awesome people from across the globe. I now have friends all around the U.S. and some in Ecuador, United Kingdom, and many others. PLUS! You get to push the button!

Rides I was trained on in 2008?????????
I began on Wildcat then I was permanently moved to Millennium Force

Rides in order of training (11)

Wildcat
Wicked Twister
Demon Drop
Gemini
Millennium Force
Matterhorn Triangle (Matterhorn, Scrambler, and Dodgems)
Big Wheel Triangle (Big Wheel, Troika, Space Spiral)

I'm going back for my second year in 2009!

Jensen - Cedar Point offers housing. If you are worried about money... Dont be! They pay every 2 weeks, housing and wardrobe are directly deducted.

Not going to lie but they do kind-of suck. I lived in the most expensive one ($31 per week) and it was worth it. I had 3 roommates with 2 bunk beds (4 beds total) and there is a community bathroom. But, as a ride operator you are barley in the room at all. I suggest take the same route I did and get the more expensive room with air conditioning. I had a few friends that tried the non-air supplied room and they hated it! When it reached 95* and you come home to a 55* room????????? It's awesome and worth the extra money. In the commons area the is a recreation center, basketball hoop, convince store, and the legendary and hilarious dance offs (I took no part in!).

Here is a pic of my room right before I processed out...

Couldn't you bring your own window air conditioner? Or did they restrict that because of what power suckers they are?

Damn, that room is too clean. When I processed out, I had to sift through piles of my roomates' month-old laundry to find all of my stuff.

I personally recommend the apartments, either Bayside or Commons, because you get a fridge and a stove top for cooking. But maybe that's just me because I seriously hate eating fast food and microwaved food all summer. The commons dorms (what dave showed) are really nice too. Cedars is basically bare-bones. No air conditioning, no cable, no internet, and it's a half-hour bus trip to get to commons and back to go to the employee rec center and mail room. The only downside to commons is that it's ghetto as hell... lots of people screaming "DEEETROIT BASKET BAAAAALLL!"

That pic was from my last load of things to take out... I have a mini fridge that was in the room. I packed it with things for lunch and stuff like that.

I never heard "DEEETROIT BASKET BAAAAALLL!" but did you see the dance offs? I walked in after my first day and saw the "dancing" Fell to my knees laughing hysterically!

Oh man, DEEEEEEEEETROIT BASKET BAAAAAAL, that brings back bad memories. I remember it happening whenever there was a game on in the rec center, but it was by far the worst at the park. I swear to god that every other train during the playoffs had half of the riders yelling that. Thankfully they got eliminated and the next day it pretty much stopped.

@jensen, we always joked that whoever the architect for the dorms, also made prisons. :D

In the end its a fun job more than anything. Long hours and the pay is not the best. My average hours per week was somewhere between 50-64. But the people you meet and the sheer # of rides you get in makes it worth it.
