Is there any purpose of the slab of wood, in front of the train between the track rails, being there?

Nah, a lot of woodies have that just for fun and looks.

They prevent things from falling off a train onto underlaying track or other rides, or paths.

Also...can anybody help me find a pic. or something that would help me make custom supports on a turn with high banking...I've been looking all day...and still can't find any...any help would be greatly appreciated[|)]

I believe that the wooden catwalk that exists between the rails is just for crossing between the two catwalks during maintenance. Youll usually see it before a highly banked section so they can go from one side to the other more safely than jumping or climbing.
