This image is under cross polarized light without the use of the gypsum plate or anything like that. Since you're a goddamned expert in the field I don't need to explain those terms to you. Notice the first order colors and the different extinction of the grains.
I've been studying to be a geologist for a couple years and I only TA two sections of a goddamned introductory class. It's not called "yellow amethyst". What you linked to is called citrine, and if you wanna be really scientific, it's quartz.
