CoasterCrazy 2009 NoLimits Tournament ????????? Round 2 ????????? Inversion on Main Street


Designers, congratulations for passing Round 1 and welcome to Round 2.

The task in this round is to build a Maurer-S?????????hne X-car in the middle of a park?????????s main street. Instead of the free-for-fall of round 1, you will be paired up, and the winner of each pair advances to the next round.

The Rules
Note that all measurements in the imperial system are rounded estimates, judging will be based on the metric measurements. All rules will be checked in editor where possible. Breaking the rules or changing the template will result in disqualification.

Coaster type must be Maurer-S?????????hne X-Car

On the template above you will find 5 different areas:
Dark green (?????????outside????????? park)
Light green (buildings/attractions)
Grey (paths)
Blue (station area)
Pink (pathless area)
Max. height in the blue area is 18 meters (59 ft.), everywhere else the max track height is 60 meters (197 ft.).
No footers (or parts of footers) may be placed in the dark green area.
Min. track height in the grey area is 6 meters (20 ft.).

Do note that the colors from the picture are a little different from the colors used in the trackfile.

The coaster must feature exactly one inversion. An inversion is track banked over 155 degrees. One exception: If you?????????re lifthill arcs backwards, like on GForce and Skywheel, it will not be counted an inversion.

Only 1 lift, no launches. Max. lift speed: 15 kph (9,3 mph). All other forms of transport, max speed: 10 kph (6,1 mph).

The lift must have an ascent angle of at least 90 degrees at least once. If you?????????re lifthill arcs backwards, like on GForce and Skywheel, it will not be counted an inversion.

The station(s) must be entirely within the blue, X-marked box.

The coaster must run 6 trains with 2 cars per train.

You are allowed to change colors of the buildings and paths. Scenic trees are allowed. 3ds and other fancy stuff build out of supports are also allowed, but it will not be counted. Anything that is not a tree or support structure will be deleted while judging. Exceptions to this rule are supports made out of 3ds, custom track-backbone and the default tunnels from NL-itself.

Guidelines
Maurer is known for its original layouts and elements while keeping the ride strong and smooth. But be aware that you?????????ll need to run six trains on this course and stacking those trains will not do your score much good.

G-force guidelines:
Vertical -1.5 / + 4.5
Lateral -1 / +1

These numbers are guidelines, you will not get DQ?????????d for going over or under them, but the more you go over them (or nowhere near them depending on the situation) the more points you gain or lose, got it?

Submitting
You coaster must be uploaded to the exchange March 17th at 11:59 PM, CC-time. You may upload only once so remember to triple-check your track. Please include the NLTR2 tag in the filename.
If you are not sure whether you are breaking any rules: ask, yell, mail or use smoke signals! If nobody reacts/shouts/asks anything about the rules/template I will assume they are clear and understood.

Of course, any other questions regarding this round or the tournament may be asked in this topic.

So your lift has to arc backwards? 90* doesn't work too well in NL.

btw, what's the point of doing well in the first round if the second round contestants are randomly paired? Isn't this a tournament? I swear it seems like people don't think at all when making contests...

The lift doesn't have to arc backwards. It has to be 90* just once. If you go vertical and then arc forward, it's ok too.

As for your second question, doing well in the first round gets you into the top-16 and into the 2nd round. I swear it seems like people don't think at all when asking questions...

The tournament has this setup for as long as I can remember.

Apparently vertical track mostly doesn't work well with any kind of change in banking. My bad.

Never seen a tournament where contestants aren't paired by how they did in the regular season, which in this case would be the first round. Your bad.

When u mean 3ds can be built out but not counted, u mean that we wont be dqed if we have 3ds outside on the dark green.

Also, can 3ds and treea go on the paths?

So most of the track is supposed to be in the light green and pink areas? I actually don't understand how I'm going to build anything [lol]

Then you need to pay more attention to how the CoasterCrazy (or WeeWeeSlap) Tournament (or Match-up contest, it has also been named that several times) were run the last 4 years. Your bad.

3ds and trees can go on dark green, as long as your 3ds isn't supposed to be a footer. 3ds and trees can go on paths.
But all 3ds will be deleted when judging.

How can you just let go of one disqualification rule. That's so unfair to the others who were Dq'ed for other reasons. All of your rules are hard to follow, but your reasoning for this contest is straight up garbage. You should have excused all the disqualificated tracks, or you should have kept them all in the possibility of making it to round 2.

Well let's see, that rule was taken out because it was unclearly phrased. Having your friction tyres on or off doesn't give you the slightest advantage. As for my rules being hard to follow:
Gimme some feedback! How can I improve my contest if all you say is that my rules stink.
Besides, if it weren't for cjd and me, how many contests would this site have? Cut me some slack here man, have you ever tried hosting a contest yourself, or a tournament?

ugh...you could have told me from the start that all the fuzz you were making was about me randomizing the pairs, would have saved me some effort.
Anyways, you're right, I prefer random draw over the Strong vs. Weak-method.

It's not strong vs. weak...it's (what you consider) a good first round track vs. not so good. The way you're doing it, there's no incentive to build a good track other than to move on...meaning entrants will just want to get by. That makes for weak tracks...well it would have had you said you were going to change the format before actually doing it. I just don't know of any legit tournaments that differ from the way it was done in 2006 and the way I think it should be done now.

Then they in past years probably would have been eliminated in the first round as their track wouldn't be good enough, but this year they would have had a good chance to make it through. [;)]

Oh ok...

Anyways..I got a question...The template isn't touching the ground...can we stretch the bottom of the buildings so they are no longer floating?
