It would be pretty difficult...lol

May I ask why it would need to be shut down for a couple of months?

It is an impedement for an upgrade we want to do. We have not obtain the necessary funds to do the exchange, but we can do a good part of the site. Thus we would like to move the site forward, and if we can, put the exchange on hold for a while.

Will all the tracks come back if the exchange does get up and running?

i voted yes, but your site and coastersims.com have a VERY well-know reputation for your variety of rides. Shutting down the exchange would be practicly giving reason for new visitors NOT to visit the site. Instead of shutting down the exchange, buy a few gigs of extra server space and create a topic in the fourms for users to exchange coasters. Trust me, its gonna be worth it.

Austin - Tracks would be back and running when the exchange would be brought back.

GTzeroH - We have the server space now and for the future, we own our own server. We could do a forum type track exchange, but, that is so ghetto [lol] We want to have a proper exchange like we do now. However the platform we wish to switch to is not compatible with the current exchange and never could be compatible.

Yeah, places like TPR have people who just give a download link and then people rate it in the forum. It works perfectly fine, its just less fancy.

OR?--you could just make a basic HTML page with a search function and a randomizer and a new upload feature. But hey, i never knew ghetto existed in a DSL line.

I think this was mentioned on the overflow of the last podcast. Obviously I would still visit. While the exchange is nice, we could do without it for a time.

Of course I would still visit as you guys have other cool stuff on the site and, I have a lot of fun riding the coasters I have on my No Limits 'amusement park' to keep me thrilled for at least that long. Not to mention SFoG opens in about a wee too. They were supposed to open this weekend but we got three inches of snow.Insert

Yeah, I've been here for like three years so I wouldn't leave. Probably wouldn't be on quite as much, but yeah, I'd still be around.

I could do without. I'll put my ride on megaupload or something and post the link in either the hard hat or track advert. forum.

I can also do without for a couple of months. When I look at my last uploads there is a huge gap in time in between. So yeah...

It would not bother me much. It is definitely one of the top features on the site in my opinion. If it could be improved with only a few months wait, I'd say that it would be worth it.

I would believe that we may lose some of the invisible, track-downloading, non-forum posting members of the site for a while. That may cause a money issue, possibly a reduction to the sites overall income for a while until the exchange is brought back up.

Still though, if it is to happen I'd be happy to see the exchange updated. Please take the time to consider all the different possibilities that can happen though. As well, maybe create a fail safe back-up plan just in case.
