I personally wouldn't leave, but new active membership would definitely go down, as the track exchange is a big part of this website.

I think it will separate the people that just come for downloads from the people who visit this site for a long time now and participate on the forums

It would definitely act as a wall for new coming members, like people have said they simply just would not stay.

But yeah, I would? The exchange hasn't impressed me or many people for many months anyway [lol]

most of the last posted tracks have no rating cause no body rates anymore, maybe after a few weeks when the exchange is back people will rate again.

Are you kidding me? If I couldn't access the exchange, I would tie a noose around my neck and kick the stool away from my feet.

P.S. I would post a suicide topic on here first before doing so...

[/sarcasm]

But anyway, I will definetely stay here and "contribute" to this site. Besides, this might acutally give me motivation to toy around with FVD and Newton to acutally produce my first ride!
Oh, were you expecting something here?

Of course i would stay loyal to the site even if its exchange was down for a while...

Just wondering but how long would the exchange be down?

Unfortunately, you don't speak for 99% of the people on the site whose lifeline lies on the exchange. Some people don't even know a forum exists unless slapped with it [lol]

I'm not sure if this has been answered already but...how would this effect the tournament? Are you guys going to wait after it's done??(I know...kind of an obvious answer...you must want to[stoning]me)
Sometimes you gotta sacrifice a little bit of yourself to get the job done.

I'd stay, Just as long as the exchange could come back again later (when the funding is able to bring it back).

Even without the exchange, track could either be mailed to me, or uploaded to sites such as megaupload or rapidshare.

Shut it down and do it right -- of course, you are free to borrow my coding if you'd like.

I'm always looking for news about amusement parks and their roller coasters so I think I would always use this site even if we couldn't upload NL coasters any more. But uploading tracks on this site is really fun because of the huge amount of people that download them and ride them.

Edit: Just a suggestion. Why not have everybody zip their track files before uploading them? That way we could download and upload them much faster (I just have a dial up connection [:(]) and your computer's hard drive could hold more tracks.

I would believe that we may lose some of the invisible, track-downloading, non-forum posting members of the site for a while. That may cause a money issue, possibly a reduction to the sites overall income for a while until the exchange is brought back up.

I doubt that less activity would make a site more expensive. Usually you pay for the bandwidth, right? Well, if that huge flow of retards that only download the tracks leave. That would mean less bandwidth so lower costs, Right?

Too right, the exchange is no way near as exciting as it used to be. I used to look at tracks on the exchange and think, i want to be able to make rides as good as them, but lately, there are few people who impress me with there skills enough to make me want to carry on uploading coasters as well, or participate in Tournaments. The Esxchange can easily go for a few months, it is obviously the most important part of the site still, BUT thats why it needs the attention. It needs to be the best it can be, and if that means closing it for a few months, its worth it. Plus, like someone said before, reopening later might cause a surge in activity and will be a breath of fresh air for the site.

Oscar, if you want a better exchange don't borrow TConwell's code [:P]

j/k

Btw, worrying statistics Oscar, 40% of the poll votes said they wouldn't survive.

Couldn't you just develop this new system on a development server, etc ... then just push the update at midnight one night.

You'd suffer a minimal loss of uploads and retain visitors.
