I think Matt's friendly enough... somehow... in that "he may be a douche, but at least he's not an enema" sort of way. :P

I choose to point out sensitive areas in a faith as a reaction to the actions taken around me that are rather insulting and annoying. If you don't like me pointing these things out, then I'm sorry.

I'm trying to figure out exactly WHY you think the way you do, which is why I kept bringing up the whole Ann Coulter is an anti semite thing. When you say on natinoal TV that jews need to be perfected, it's a rather large problem since a civilized area of the world is supposed to be against genocide.

I'll apologize for comparing some of your views with "old crockety pieces of crap" as that wasn't right but I really don't see how I've insulted you directly aside from that and lumping you together with the religious people causing most of the problems in the USA.

Also if you want less attitude I'd recommend that you stop addressing virtually everyone as a child. You have a very teacher like demeanor sometimes and it can come off as bullying.

Yeah the people I get drunk with on the weekends and who I'm living with next year.

I cannot remember asking you, Matt, to point out my flaws as you see them -- but if it makes you feel better than I am delighted for your well being. Not sure though, what my flaws and imperfections as you see them have to do with the topic of this thread? But yeah ... again, if you feel better then ... bravo to you.

Stop relying on the government to fix all of our problems. That's how our country leads to failure. That's how more problems arise.
And please tell me that the above was not meant for me. I totally against the government having any more involvement in my life than they already have. I think I have made that perfectly clear for ... oh I don't know, the last 19 years of my adult life.

This. I mean how stupid is it for people to say the government should change the constitution to prevent gay couples from marrying because some Christian churches think it's ucky? That would be stupid. Who wants the government to have more control over people's lives? They should be allowed to marry all they want, if a Christian church wants to refuse it, the more power to them, but it's not up to the government to say who should and shouldn't get marriage rights.

Right?

Er...

Wait, hold on...

Uhh, what's the problem here? Showing respect to another foreign leader? They're not holding hands and laughing with each other, this is at least a step above that.

Freddie, perfectly aware of that gesture (and it is covered in the video). That gesture is a matter of friendship in Saudi custom. I have seen it and understand it very well (have had several friends be escorts during the war and it is not a [r] thing as we see in the states).

The thing to remember here is that the leader of the United States does NOT bow to any other leader, especially a middle eastern leader! It puts us (the nation he represents) in a sub-serviant position to them and I assure you, those who were with the King of Saudi Arabia got the whole message on that one; and most assuredly felt supreme. (It is akin to Superman bowing down to Jor-El ... same principle, same worship attitude.)

However, I will admit ......... it is entirely impossible to kiss someone's arse from a standing position, and so O had to assume the proper placement of his lips.

Bowing is a sign of respect just as holding hands is as you put it. Honestly, I don't even see how one can try to make bowing out to be worse than hand holding, as it's not. If anything, the hand holding is more outrageous for lack of a better word in our culture. The bowing is no less respectful.

I'm sorry, this is just the same as claims that Obama is an elitist, a socialist, a Muslim, etc. None of these things actually hold water and shouldn't even be covered considering the things that are actually happening in the world.

Anyone have any political topics that actually matter that they'd like to discuss?

Ummmm .... Freddie, quit minimizing thoughts of others with trivial, flippant comments. It makes you sound elitist, socialist, like certain members who want to take pot shots, etc. Believe me when I say this with all due respect, your poop stinks too. Got it?

No, I am saying that we are equal. Yet, when our leader bows to another he is signifying that all Americans now bow before him. This my friend, is a major faux paux that finally some of the press are beginning to warm up the BS meters.

I'm not sure how that comment relates to socialism at all? I'm just saying there are far more important things happening in the world than bowing and Mrs. Obama touching the Queen. The republican media are just using these things because they honestly have nothing else. Like I said, it's all about holding water.

Obama was bowing out of respect. Just like we shake hands here. There's really nothing else to it IMO. If he had held the guys hand, you don't think they'd be ripping him for that too? Although maybe not, as it might make the hypocrisy a bit too apparent.

My post was directed at guitarplayer, but I edited to reflect yours as that's more important.

Ok, lets try this again since we got caught up in an edit thing. In no way am I an eletist, I just think there are FAR more important things going on in the world.

Let me put it this way: What's a bigger issue, the President making a gesture out of respect that is arguably not even a big deal in our culture relative to the gesture Preisdent Bush made in 2005, or the hugely rising threat of Somali pirates that could very well overtake terrorism as a major defense issue if it keeps up at the rate it's at? Or how about Mrs Obama touching the Queen, or the near double-digit unemployment rates nationwide (with some states including my home state of Rhode Island now in the double digits)?

I honestly don't get why the media (some outlets more than others, *cough*) gets caught up in these things. They end up being meaningless in the longrun and prove to be only one step above something you'd see on E! involving Brittney Spears.

I'm trying to stay away from long posts since all I seem to get in return is "Good points" with a change of subject, but when I get called an elitist for trying to shoot down something of such little value, I feel like I should atleast try and defend myself.

Is that why the USA's international image is much better than it used to be and the stocks are recovering at record rates not seen since 1933? Seems to be doing a pretty good job for someone in way over his head.

Good argument. [lol]

Seriously, I understand what you are saying, however for that day the news of was the fact that our President put himself in a position of subserviance on the national stage lower than that of the Saudi's. You may not consider that a big thing ... but as an active duty man for the last 19 years (scheduled to retire next year), we have gone through some real issues in the Middle East (which before anyone jumps began with Clinton's inability to lead nationally), and so, I know the underlying tone. The Saudi's love us in public, but get them in private and we are infidels who do not deserve to breathe. Trust me on this one, I have witnessed it. They love that we protected them from Sadaam, but outside of that we are good for nothing else than giving them our money.

And so my friend, on a national stage, Obama did us no favors with this "its not a big deal" gesture. Seriously.

As far as the pirates .... they have boats and M16s. We have pilots and F16s. Seriously. We should have blown them to bits years ago when they attempted to capture a cruise ship. The fact that no one has taken them to the woodshed is more disturbing than anything else. But then again, when nation's are too busy ensuring their big business is funded, why would we pay attention to what else is going on.

Let me say this again because I feel it is worth it. I am active duty. Way underpaid and asked to give my life so that people like yourself can have whatever opinion suits you. However, to see our leader put himself in a position of sub-serviance is offending, and degrading.

Next year I will have O's signature on my retirement certificate and I have already made plans to burn it. I dont want it. His name and his "thanks" for my service are empty, completely devoid of meaning, and not worth the paper it will be printed on. And that's the bottom line.
Sometimes the best thing to say is nothing at all.
