Just because you're 21 doesn't mean you're invincible to the wrath of county oinky oinks giving you a 250 dollar ordinance violation ticket for walking home with a closed water bottle full of booze.

PS unmarked Ford Focus' exist.

F the police!!!!!

"Closed" means it's in the original manufacturer's bottle and the seal hasn't been broken. If it's in a closed water bottle the seal has been broken because you had to break it to put stuff in it.

So the moral of the story is that you should put yourself in danger and drink the ENTIRE bottle of what ever you have been drinking (In my case Gem Clear) at your friend's house before you walk home because otherwise the terrorists will come and rape of the women in the United States and convert them to Islam.

So, if I read this correctly, it is illegal to fill a water bottle with booze and walk around with it?

Don't taze me bro!

Yes, it's illegal to have an open container of alcohol in public. It gives them a reason to throw homeless people in jail for the night.

What an amusing story. Are you sure that the police were not provoked into action? Are you sure that you hadn't drunk enough of the bottles contents to not really be aware what you were doing? Did you infact throw said bottle at the police? ay? ay?

Seriously though, it's illegal to have open alcohol in public there? Wow, land of the free, huh?

Oh yeah, about the unmarked cars as well, anyone in England who's ever driven on a motorway for more than an hour will have seen an unmarked police car at the side of the road having pulled someone over. Not just Focus' though, although the Focus ST unmarked police cars look AWESOME, there are many many different ones they use here, including old bangers, I've seen someone pulled over by an old Ford Escort RS Turbo, so be very aware if you come to England [lol]

That's dumb. But yeah, hiding it a little better might've been a good idea.

It seems kinda like one of those things that are laws just so the police can fine/arrest you if they suspect something else. That's how our curfew here is. You have to be inside by 11, but the cops really don't give a crap unless they suspect you were doing something shady or vandalizing something and can't prove it. Then, you will be taken in to the station for "being out past curfew."

It's not just your area...I have a buddy who had the same thing happen to him as he was walking on the side of the road with an open container of beer.

When in the parking lot by Islands of Adventure, I had a cop randomly come up to me and ask me what is in my (empty) Gatorade bottle. I told him it was empty, and just Gatorade. He asked to sniff it and I let him. Turns out, it was empty, and just Gatorade. Way to go cop.

But yeah I'm 21, have lots of fun doing myriad different things, and have never taken a sip of alcohol in my life. I think it's more fun hearing about people hurting themselves or getting busted...and being in college, I've heard a ton of stories. Thanks for adding to them ck :)

A 12th of a nano-second search on Google yields the following:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Sta ... ainer_laws

Seriously Matt, open container laws are not new. They had them when I was 21, and well ... that was 16 years ago. Bummer about the ticket though, I think you are actually the first person I have known personally to get one.
Sometimes the best thing to say is nothing at all.

I was aware of the law just not the specificity of it, IE I didn't know that a closed container was still considered open.

I know it's stupid walk around pounding a beer outside, I'm just a little annoyed that carrying a closed water bottle was bad.

I went to TJ, Mexico today (again) there and people walk up and down the street with liquor without a problem. That's us Americans, if they see a Mexican, they take him to sleep [:)]

Too true gouldy, there are far to many unmarked cars on our roads. The closer to London you get the worse it is. at least a T5 stands out in a crowd......
