^for me it used to take a long time to brush teeth with braces, but now I am lazy and just brush like I did without braces, but still no cavities.

And don't worry about whether braces will hurt or not, because when I was about to get braces, everyone told me they would hurt like hell, and they did for the first day or two, but after that, I didn't feel any pain at all.

The braces hurt more getting them taking off than getting them on. You're teeth are going to be extremely sensitive for a bout a week, nothing but pudding, applesauce, ect. can be eaten pretty much. Whenever you get them tightened they're going to hurt, until you've gotten them tightened three, four, maybe even five time's. After those first few months, they won't hurt when you get them tightened.

When you first get them, be sure to put the wax they give you some good use, because your mouth isn't going to be used to them, so sores around the bothered area's is common. Stick the wax under HOT water for about ten seconds, then rip it off and place over the irritated area (it helps a lot!) You get to choose colors for your teeth, and you can pick whatever color to your hearts content.

Braces aren't fun, but in the long run, you're going to have nice, clean, straight teeth, that is unless you decide to be lazy and not brush them right, then you'll have nasty stains they have to grind off after you get them off.

After getting your braces off, WEAR YOUR RETAINER!! I got lazy and always forgot to put it in, leading up to a second six month period of braces again. After that I got the permanent bars put in both bottom and top, so make sure you wear it!

Anything else, just ask.

mine will have a number of colors, and if I don't like the color I can change it twice a month.

I had mine for about 9 months, because i had reatiners before hand, and the real braces hurt, but not for too long at a time, and eventually, you get used to them. I remember being sooooo fed up, becuase they hurt quite a lot when i had mine, but now ive got them off, it was sooooooo worth it. Just remember that (:

alright, ill give you the lowdown on the braces, just like haydawg did.

Getting spacers is somewhat painful, but nothing too major. Your teeth will feel a little sore and its going to feel like a piece of food is stuck between your teeth for about 1 to 2 weeks depending on how quickly your teeth will move. Then, back to the dentist, the spacers come out and then the fun begins.

First tip: DO NOT SWALLOW EVER. The glue that is going on your teeth tastes soooooo bitter and disgusting. Getting the braces on is a bit of a pain. Your going to have to sit there for about an hour and let them do all the work, then the wires go in, and you go out. First day, your teeth will feel fine, not too sore or anything, but your lips will feel all puffed up because of the extra stuff on your teeth. Day two is the bad one. Your going to wake up in pain. Not sore, but in pain. I hate to break it to you, but its true. Get some strong pain killers, advil will not do the trick. Your going to want vicadin (thats what i took), and it helps. O MY GOD it helps. Like haydawg said, wear the wax on the painful areas. Your lips will get cut up and sore, and it will hurt.

Now, when you get your braces adjusted, wires changed out, your teeth are going to feel, again, sore. The first time will be sore, after that it will feel better and better. Just get through the first 2 weeks I would say and your home free. You can almost tell how much the teeth are going to hurt by listening to what wire they are going to put in. My doc does that, and he says something like lets move that 16 up to an 18, which would be sore because thats 2 wires tighter.

Now, I havent gotten my braces off yet, but I know the feeling after. First, when you get your wires out, your teeth are going to feel loose and wobbly until the wire is put back in. The wire feels normal, as where your normal teeth don't anymore.

Braces coming off is probably the weirdest feeling... ever. Your teeth are all slimy, gooey, not metally, and blahdy blah. It's just like getting braces all over again, except without the braces.

Know, I wrote all of this because I was a nervous wreck about getting my braces, and I can tell that you must be nervous as well. Just keep thinking to yourself though, these will come off soon, and I will have beautiful teeth. I'm almost done, I think there coming off in september! WOOO!

P.S: When your making the molds, breath through your nose. Trust me when I say that.
So, my friend came up to me the other day and asked if I wanted a frozen banana, and I said no, but I want a normal banana later, so... yea.

I haven't gotten braces yet, and I should have a long time ago. And it's going to really suck for me, because i got some non-permanant caps on my two front teeth because i chipped them REALLY close to the nerve, and they could come out any time, but i got them replaced about a year ago after they came out after they lasted almost 4 years.

Basically what people said about them hurting...true.

Getting them on is nothing really bad..just annoying.. and as flickstah said DONT TASTE THE GLUE. It is terriable.

That day wont be bad.. just might feel weird. as others stated.. USE the wax or youll be getting cuts and stuff.

The next 2-3 days will be so bad. They will hurt like no other, to the point where you might not even be able to like hit your teeth together. after that its really smooth sailing.
Getting them tightened doesnt really hurt and doesnt take long at all. But if they change the wires, then they might be a little sore for the rest of the day but nothing major.
Wear your rubber bands or youll never hear the end of it from the dentist.

And overall..afterwards when you have your retainer, pray that it actually works and your teeth dont start shifing back like mine did causing you to get braces a 2nd time..

Its not fun and a huge pain.

I got the new system of braces. There so much better then the old kind. They hurt less, and you only have to get them tightened like half as many times.

But expect to be on a liquid diet for at leas 2-3 days.

Whatever happened to learn from your mistakes? I'm sure Brandon will still be going through all of these events only to learn for himself the techniques to making the braces process run more smoothly [lol]

The new system is called the Damon System (http://www.damonbraces.com/). They have like little doors on the brackets that the wires go into, so they're not held as tight as the old kind, making it less painful.
