Ive started a new side project while I'm working on my big project, Nyx. It is a mobile fair ride style coaster, with a vertical launch. The launch is is new concept (although done before by many) of a launch that starts with the train vertical, like a shuttle launch. It is 115ft tall, and reaches a max speed of 58 mph. It also features an intersection through the main tower. I'm making this to be imperfect on purpose, as a mobile ride is generally not the smoothest or has the best transitions etc.

I love mobile fair rides! This looks really cool. I think the riders are gonna be blown away with a vertical launch followed by a vertical drop.

How are you approaching the tower's configuration? Is the launch going to send riders over the top with ejector? Or floater? Or will the train be controlled by wheels or something else? Hold brake?

Tidus, no i'm not gonna make it S&%*, but its gonna be "perfectly imperfect".

Thanks gerstl, and to answer your question, the hill has a pretty tight top that gives ejector into the edge of the "green zone". It dosent have a holding brake, its just up and over. the launch is 0-21mph, which sounds slow, but its being launched from partway up the tower, and is propelled on the whole vertical section. It crests the hill with about -1.7 g's. Its intense!

^Yeah, you had a horizontal launch......a vertical launch (basically an intensified lift) is much more exciting, especially with ejector air and a vertical drop afterwards. Looks pretty cool so far, musicmonkey.

It sounds like high (or low whatever) negative g's but its actually still "in the green". Other parts will have yellow forces, but actually on purpose, due to the fact that it's a fair ride, which are often very intense despite their stature.

No. Colors don't define limits. -1.7 gs would make you cry and it's definitely going to leave you in pain. If you have more of those powerful negative forces that reach yellow than this ride is definitely unsafe and I would recommend you fix those areas...

-1.4 if you must. Avoid even that if you can.

eh, i consider it safe. The point of the ride is to be intense, and airtime thats truly ejector wont hurt!

Just because it seems high, dosent mean its dangerous in any way. And anyway, who hasent ever felt that fair rides are unsafe? They generaly kinda are...

As odd as it may sound, feeling unsafe is not equal to being unsafe. Wooden roller coasters "feel" unsafe. Fair rides "feel" unsafe. Rides that pull -1.7 g's ARE unsafe. I hate to say it, but it's true. It's no big deal though, make the crest a bit wider, or taller, or whatever's easiest.

Rough? Fairground rides aren't rough. Only the crappy ones are, like the steel I beam railed tracks [;)]

Swarzkopf models are pretty smooth, and built just as they would be if they were mounted. Intamin would be the same.

If you recorded a positive force worth 1.7 G's on that, there must be a very yucky vertex there.
