I think that there is quite a lot of things that aren't shown in any particular detail on the section drawings, being as they are simply proposal drawings, not approved manufacture drawings.

yeah it'll be much clearer when we can get some actual official manufacture drawings so i know what i'm seeing and possibl some renderings, but that could be a while.

yeah, I'm suggesting that we probably won't see stuff like that until after construction begins.

as much as i hate complainers, i think restrictions at Alton towers have done the park a great service in forcing it to come up with creative rides. Its too easy to use height as a selling factor and then produce just 'another' coaster that you could find anywhere.

Such as Oblivion, Corkscrew, Rita, Thunderlooper, Black Hole, and most of the old rides.

^Haha, i never noticed that!!
Well, no one on here's said it yet, well.. think no ones said it, but this has had its application approved.
Thats a massive step for AT, securing that permission means there's probably scope for for more projects granted permission in the future.
Work in clearing some of the woodland has started, but i doubt will see anything major for a while yet.
As for manufacturer? Well, for me Premier probably most likely imo, throughputs similar, track sections, indoor section with forward or backward lauches, special sections and such.
After that, maybe mack, or hopefully intamin, and if you look at the supports on Ispeed, there similar to the supports on the planning which is interesting.

There is no clone of Rita. Not far off, but Desert Race is not a Clone! [:)]

As for that interview, it sounds good yes, but is it all talk? We'll have to see I guess, still a lot of detail about this coaster to come yet. All we have atm is a basic layout.

Following on from the news story on Alton Towers Almanac earlier, TowersTimes now believes that the 2010 rollercoaster project will be manufactured by Intamin.

Intamin were responsible for 2005 success Rita - Queen of Speed, and have also brought the classic Congo River Rapids to the park. It marks a departure for the park, after Nemesis, Oblivion and Air were all made by Bolliger & Mabillard.

Other Intamin rollercoasters in the UK include Stealth and Colossus, both at Thorpe Park in Surrey. The SW6 rollercoaster is touted as an Intamin Mega-Lite model, which is effectively their mini-hyper coaster. Rollercoasters such as Piraten in Denmark feature bunny hops, twists and turns and steep drops - which all feature in the plans for 2010. What the world-first/dark ride section will include however remains highly secret.

are we looking at a launched Mega Lite?
So, my friend came up to me the other day and asked if I wanted a frozen banana, and I said no, but I want a normal banana later, so... yea.

With initial layout it shows a normal lift, while I doubt these are the full plans and more a concept of the ride itself I would put money on a standard lift hill. As the ride is going to use the terrain behind Ugland it will be able to generate plenty of speed without the use of a launch. The location aswell beside Rita would suggest to me that it wouldn't use a launch as Rita already has one.

Something tells me this won't be an Intamin. I don't remember, was it already confirmed that it's an Intamin?

Why can't alton towers do something properly for once? All of their rides are always short like they don't really try. I really wish they'd build 1 amazing ride as good as nemesis that lasts around 2 - 2.5 minutes instead of two so-so rides that last for a minute. I know they have the height restriction, but they can work round that, especially with that valley they have running through the park.

IF thats the actual ride, whats it gonna last, 45 seconds? Looks very underwhelming...

^ But I'm sure those 45 seconds will be worth it. Nemesis lasts about that and it offers a better experience than most B&M's which last around 2 minutes (apparently).

I dont think the two are comparable by looking at SW6's layout. Nemesis has a lot going for it this one doesnt. I think it being an Invert gives it a huge boost that overall adds to it just by the nature of the ride.

However, I actually thought the Mega Lites were over a minute long but theyre really about 40 seconds. Im a little skeptical about the ending having enough "pop" to make the riders want more, but if it comes out to 40 seconds or so its right on target for a mega-lite.

sorry jordz but that is years old and definatly not SW6. the new coaster though is bringing in a new life for alton towers.
a few weeks ago i went to the towers hotel with towerstimes to see a 10 year plan merlin has put forward for alton which included rethemeing air, expaning the gloomy wood, moving spinball wizzer and a new hotel plus extending the park around the hotels moving it away from the village. SW6 was asked about on many ocasions but they are really holding this close to the chest so its either going to awful or spectacular. all we know is the area is being themed to a haunted forest, rita will be renamed, repainted, rethemed but the big thing is what is in that building. they wont tell us. ill be there every 2 weeks to watch over the construction. when i was there 2 weeks ago they were starting to dig pretty deep off in the woods and the area where corkscrew will haunt has been striped and was alive with activity.

i have no dought that this being merlin's first big project it will be magin (yes i know, its one of the lines that the spokes women used)

Darn. Thought that newspaper article was quite new. Ahh well. Very excited for the new coaster, and very excited for the Rita re-theme. Could do with a new name really.
