Intimidator 305 - King's Dominion 2010

Hey guys! I heard the new coaster is suppose to be like Maverick at Cedar Point. The height isn't going to be over 300 ft.

where'd you hear that from?

And yes I did know it was all an opinion, but the way it was presented made it seem like what you said was definitely right, like a fact might be, when it's neither a right nor wrong statement.

Anyone else seen the size of the spine on the lift hill track? It's freaking ginourmous!







I've also read in a few places that this is supposed to be taller than the Eiffel Tower (supposedly from a reliable source AND, the tower in the park I'm presuming, not the real one lol), which would put it around the 350ft mark, making it comfortably the tallest lift hill. Intresting.

All i Said was I heard it was suppose to be similar to Maverick. How is that presenting it as a fact?

I know I'm bad at the whole comparing things and scaling and all that jazz, but are tracks actually THAT huge. I mean I always thought B&M had the widest and thickest track. But that thing is bigger than the body of the crane...like really??? I'm so confused now. Are they THAT BIG!?!?! I'm like in utter shock to be honest.

Sapporo, the track is around normal Intamin width, if not the same. What you see on the lift sections is truss which can be used to reduce the number of supports over a given length of track, among other things. The track for the ride is definitely much thicker than usual, but don't be fooled into thinking that truss is what the train rides on, or anything like that.

Gouldy: The track is placed on another structure for the reason dcs mentioned. See? The track, with the white rails, is on top.

I am fully aware of that, I am an ardent coaster enthusiast and have been for around 10 years, I'm very aware of Intamin track make-up. That is why I said "Anyone else seen the size of the spine on the lift hill track?"

I also knew exactly the reason why the spine was built up in such a way, as a design engineer, I go through very similar processes day to day.

You'd have to be blind not to see that on top of the huge bracing structure, there is a section of lift track off to one (I think the left hand) side of the structure, and pads for bolting the catwalk on the other side of the structure (the right hand side). So this will only have one catwalk.

More like the truss on a Togo or Sansei ride, which generally aren't in the jet coaster style at all.

Anyways, I haven't read anybody saying anything about the colors.

Cedar Fair bought a red colored coaster with yellow supports. Red track, again. Yay!

I am curious to know what Intamin is doing. They are completely remaking there track styles. First off, what is up with that truss track? I'm assuming its because they want to reduce the amount of supports that are needed in order to make the coaster work given the enviroment? And secondly, what is up with the double spined track? Is Intamin just trying something different? That double spined track looks very similar to the X-car styles, mostly Rip Ride Rockit. Interesting...

^ Who knew! I'm actually starting to look forward to this. Although I really do hate the color. I wish it were a darker, richer red than this bright, crayon-like red.

I think that beings that there is that double spined track there, that thing is going to be pulling some g's. I agree with Flickstah that that huge lift/launch piece is for less supports.

Looks sweet. I've always wondered though. How does the track sitting on the pavement, not cause the track to warp?

It's not actually on the pavement, the ends that would be resting on the ground are on wooden blocks. I hope I got what you mean by "warp"

Warp as in bending from the weight of the track pieces themselves.
