After using the search function, I didn't find anything in this topic about what I want to address, so here it is:

I think it would be nice to have the ability to password protect the track info. That way you can claim your copyright on your track, so even if someone steals the track and modifies it, it will still be licensed to you. Of course, someone could try to figure out the password, thereby removing your ownership, but I think making an 8-16 character password would definitely decrease that risk.

You know, everyone here is talking and discussing about NL2 about what it looks like, how much fun it will be. I like the idea of NL2 coming soon for all of us to experience.
And mostly everyone here has good things to say about it. Now I've been a fan of this site and NL for quite some time now. NO, I haven't posted any tracks......at least not yet. Mostly because, I never get the time to do so cuz of the type of work that I do. But I still enjoy seeing and sampling the many coasters here on coastercrazy. Some works of art, some that need a whole lot of work. But it's about having fun and designing something that may one day come to life.
I don't get a chance to post all the time, but tonight, after finding out that NL2 might be coming soon, I had to read the post and check out everyones responses. But there is a few that take things too seriously here.WHen I comment on someones coaster, I post what I feel is right to say. But there has been one idividual that tells me to "shut my mouth" cause I responded honestly? And it seems this individual has been talking negative to alot of others here. Ok, if a track seems similar to another one, it doesn't necessarily mean that the track was stolen. MY GOD...... how many people on this site have copied rides that already exist???
How many people have tried to copy rides like Scream Machine,El Toro,Batman: The ride, and other rides like it? We have ALL copied coasters here in some way shape or form. Things like corkscrews, turns, loops, etc! Come on now...alot of people here really don't care sometimes who designs what! Yeah, it's hard work when you design something, and then someone copies almost the same exact thing. But did you ever think that you started something good? Maybe that's the reason it might look like yours. And then, maybe someone might add something extra to it. My thing is, if you don't want someone copying, or stealing your coaster, then don't post it at all. This site is for fans of rollercoasters, and where we can all have fun. But some forget that. Crying like a little baby and saying "this track looks familiar" and trying to disrespect the person who posted it. Everyone wants to have fun, keep the negativity to yourself! Don't criticize others if you don't want the same criticism said back to you.

What Ross2010 failed to mention is that he spitefully wrote negative comments on certain tracks because people called him out on being disrespectful to someone else's work. He also thinks that it's acceptable to take someone's work and modify it to call it your own so that it becomes a "better" product. By the way, if anyone requests it, I'll be glad to post his very rude PM's to me that show just how mature he is.

My password protection idea prevents people from outright stealing tracks. Changing a few things and giving it a different name and colors does not make it your own. Your track is yours when you build it from scratch. If you want to use saved elements from other people's creations, you can as long as you ask their permission. For example, I made Patriot a long time ago, but I didn't upload it here just because I never got around to it. Calakapepe asked me permission to use the double zero-G roll in his next coaster, which I granted. That isn't stealing or plagiarizing.

Actually Ross, its simple ethics. Am I to assume you arent old enough to understand ethics?

But heres a simple lesson in what goes.

There is a thing called Intellectual Rights. These include copyrights, trademarks, etc. So whatever you create as your own, personal, creative creation is yours. Not someone elses.

Let me fill you in Ross, straight from the Law Offices of Deena Burgess:

The first thing that needs to be understood is that every photograph is the intellectual property of the person who took the photograph. Copyright protection attaches even where the person has not put a copyright notice and even if the copyright is not registered with the Copyright Office. (You do, however, need to register with the Copyright Office in order to sue on your rights.)

Every copyright holder has certain exclusive rights that attach to their work. These include the right to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works from the work (there are others that don't apply to photography). Without permission, even if you were to give credit to the copyright holder, you would still be infringing their work.

As far as my liability for you loading the copyrighted of the work onto my computer and uploading it from there, I could be subjected to vicarious liability for my part (or, more accurately, my computer?????????s part) in the copyright infringement.

If you were to contact the photographer and ask for permission to use the photo, you then would not be violating the rights of the photographer provided you abide by whatever terms the two of you agree to.

So please understand that you CANNOT just take someone elses creative work and copy it and pass it off as your own work. Even if you take a track, alter banking its NOT your work. Those nodes need to be placed by you. If you wish to use part of someones track, then please ask the person.

BTW, a lot of us probably spend less time on the computer than you. Personally, I work 40hrs a week, workout another 1 hour, 5 times a week and have other people in my life I tend too. Some days Im on here more than others depending upon my tasks I need to get done.

So, please understand this is actually law. It applies to any and all creative works. Photography, writing, 3d design - basically anything creative.

Dude, chill, please. Do you really think typing in CAPS will make people respect you? No, everything will take for just another 12-yo n00b acting like that.
And it gets you banned, too.

Please don't use caps, there annoying, irritating and unwanted.

But from what I read from your post is that you like taking other peoples rides, Slightly move a couple nodes and upload it as your creation? If you call that fun, good for you. But we don't call that fun.
There is something called common sense. When someone creates something, it's their work. If you want to use (parts) of it. Common sense usually says that you should ask politely, if you can use their work. Simple.

Personally I think that's a great idea. It would be cool if you could protect your work with a password. But then again, why not go a small step further and protect the whole ride from manipulation (Or copying) and password protect various edit functions in the editor.
The way I see that function then is just a simple option somewhere in a dropdown menu as: "Password Protection."
After clicking on that it opens first a smaller window where it would ask the password (only when it's enabled). With a correct password you would get the option to change the password and then tick or select how protected you want your trackfile. For example:
Disabled: Everything is possible, no (password) protection anywhere.
Light: Editing Info disabled.
Medium: Editing Info disabled, Save element disabled.
Heavy: Read Only Mode, you cannot edit, copy (by saving elements for example) or even adjust a setting from a trackpiece.

That's just some small brainstorming on expanding the protection idea. Everyone can choose their own way of protecting their files. [:)]

I don't really see that as an issue for Ole to waste his time on. It protects nothing and instead makes it a nuisance for everyone else.

^It protects your hard work and creativity that people on this site and other coaster sites have clearly tried to steal. If a person uploads your track as his/her own, it will be easy to tell if it was stolen, because the track info will have been unable to be changed.

But what are they getting when they do? If they were stealing money from me or something then Id be up for a password protection.

Thats why we have admins with trained eyes. We (and some of you guys!) catch it, we delete track and handle as nessicary per incident.

Password protection is way over the top. As a community of enthusiasts, we should be able to at least place a tiny bit of trust in our fellow members not to steal our work, and those that break that trust should be dealt with on an individual basis. Plus, I personally do find it rather enjoyable to edit a person's ride and save it in my own folder for enjoyment when I'm bored, and with password protection I would not be able to do that.

Password protection does not prevent you from editing the ride. It only prevents you from changing the track information which describes who originally built it. Now, we may have admins and members with trained eyes, but that doesn't eliminate theft entirely. This would.

^i agree, if the tracks are password protected you cant use other peoples rides as a base for having fun,
I sometimes get very nice results [lol], And playing and messing around with other poples tracks is a great way of getting inspiration (not copying or stealing), a good way to learn

People, read before you keep posting the same stuff. Password protection would only apply to the TRACK INFO, so you could still edit it for personal use. It simply provides a means of telling whether or not an uploaded track is stolen.

I have a few questions.

Seeing as the water interacts with the faces of objects, then what about light? Will light still go on through objects?

The walking thing is a very neat add-in. With that said, would there still be an option to fly around like in NL1? Also, was is the height in which you are walking. Are you walking 5ft up, 20ft up? And would be able to walk through the water or is the same as NL1?

And speaking of water...will there be an option to change water levels, so that you don't have to get close to the ground to be near water levels?
Sometimes you gotta sacrifice a little bit of yourself to get the job done.

Good that only smart people know how to hack. Since only the stupid people try to steal rides.

Here is a YT vid of it!

It really does look amazing...can't wait to see what the actual coaster model looks like soon!
