Tophat with Newton 2 (Intamin)

Hi all,

I was recently messing around with Newton 2. It is possible to make a high speed turn like the ones on Maverick? That are totally level with the ground?

IDK about N2, but with N1 you could. Just get the banking right. its all about the banking!

you can, use single zone then change the g-force to quartic and lower the g- force by about 2g's(although this is just an idea you need to experiment depending on the speed)and put about 170 degree banking, this makes a smooth straight transitions with a nice snap.

I think its easier and more effective in the multi-zone to have the G's change over the apex or middle of the turn using a force segment with a sextic transition that matches your G's (or exceeds) that you entered with. That way youll have airtime of at least 0.0 between the twisting motion.

^ That is a great piece of info Real. I've been doing it the way stealthrider5583 just showed. However, just tried your method and it is much more effective in my opinion. Thanks.

yea it worked real nice first time I tried it. If I ever need a twisting transition with airtime I use that method. I have much greater control and G's are great.

Heres a shot. I copied and blew up my roll and g settings (dont need the lateral) so you can see whats going on. I should have made the overall segment longer but thats a moot point. The red and blue time zones highlighted represent the twisting action between the turns.

No it's not possible. Only Jesus Can shape it like that.

I've tried shaping a tophat before, and the only way I can do it almost like it is with laterals... and well actually it was a complete failure. I still have yet to find out how to shape one in newton.

^ Nah I was just joking about that. And I know I can't do it. Anything is possible, there's no such thing as the word impossible. That's just how I see the word impossible though.

Muiti-force zones are much, much more flexible, and would probably solve a lot of transitions problems for me if I used them. I had to use at least one muiti-force zone for a more typical top hat I made a while ago.

As I work with N2 more and more (never used the first one, I just happened to pop back around here when N2 came out), I'm finding that the use of laterals are pretty unecessary for many or most steel coasters. For more traditional wooden designs, you'll need them though, or for any ride where laterals are intentional.

Screw around with muiti-force zones to shape that top hat. The key is to make zones timed correctly and overlap at the right places it seems. That's the only advice I can offer since I haven't tried recreating anything in Newton (nor NL for that matter) before.

Laterals are 100% necessary on many steel coasters, especially Intamin.
