would a launch from 0-43mph in 1.1sec be possible for lims or would it have to be another launch type?

I think any acceleration is possible for Lims, but if it will be comfortable for the riders is a different problem.

But looking at the values it should be ok

its about the same acceleration as kingda ka. Im not sure how fast lims can go acceleration wise.

From what i've heard from some coaster companies that use LIM's as launch, it can go beyond G-Force tolerable limits.

LIMs that i know of, do not accelerate at a constant speed, their acceleration decreases as their resistance builds up.
I think...?

It would also depend on whether you're launching a five car Intamin train or a six-person Gerstlauer car. One probably weighs about a third of the other.

Well, is it launching from a stoped position or from a slow roll? One requires more power in real life to launch, thats why maverick's second launch is usually while its still rolling a little.

LIMs will be like any machine - with constant power, acceleration decreases with increasing speed. (I.e. they'll have a fixed ultimate power, acceleration will tend towards zero as speed increases)

(play about with F=MA and Energy=Force*Displacement)

0-43mph in 1.1 seconds sounds a bit much for LIMs to me, if it was 3-43mph, it would be a different story as there is no need for the launch to overcome inertia on the moving vehicle as oppose to a stationary vehicle.

The power that the LIMs can put out is not in question. In terms of the acceleration forces you're talking about, LIMs are easily capable of the power required, and then some! But with LIMs, it is very wasteful in terms of the power required to overcome the initial forces of inertia acting on a stationary train (something that is eliminated with a moving train because the trains inertial forces are acting to help you move the train). Although what you're talking about is easily possible, in my opinion it would be unlikely to be achieved in a real life situation as there are FAR more efficient ways of getting the cars to move off the line to that speed from stand-still. But, like I said, if your coaster can cope with it, a rolling start to the launch would allow the use of LIMs on this ride.

The launch is from a standstill right from the station, that's why im questioning my methods. It is launching over a very short distance which also poses the problem of that in real life the catch car needs room to stop. So again, just tell me what you think i should use!

huh? i dont wuite understand what u mean by that... what do you mean by recovering? if you mean rollback wise, thats really not an issue unless it only launches like 10 mph.

Granted around the end of the deceleration Freeze switches to clamp brakes.

the coaster im planning this for is not a shuttle. it also has an extremely low chance of rollback. you guys are making this way to complicated.

Just tell me. LIMs or cable??

LIM's... It is easily possible.

...But VERY expensive to run... but that's off topic.

[lol] Trust CKWMW to be different.

musicmonkey, I think what almost everyone was saying is that LIMs are a perfectly viable way of acheiving what you're after, but in a real life situation, it would probably be not preferred because of the power required. BUT this is NL, not real life, and I doubt too many of the raters will be concerned by the power consumption of your launch [lol]

so go for LIMs [;)]

They are. However, LIM's are much more expensive (to run).

i.e. Wicked Twister has the highest running cost at CP.

What about LSMs like iSpeed uses? Don't they launch from a standing start?

^ No.

Although it launches from the station, it still clearly has a rolling start to it's launch via some other mechanism.
