I can understand what you mean ... more of a reason to keep yours going, Oscar! Seriously, it's nice to see that CC has weathered the storm. So many communities have risen and fallen in the past couple of years. Hopefully the NL Exchange will help support this endeavor.

Also, in order to keep the community running, the NL dev team really needs to provide us with more teasers and information to keep us hooked. We haven't really heard, no - seen much, in the past year when you think about it.

Wrong, the more the reason for me to leave. If Ole doesn't care about me, who puts the community out there for him to make money from then I shall stop caring about NL. I tried communicating this concern with him and he replied to the first email for more info, I replied with details and of course after seeing it he decided to turn face.

^ And to get that kind of stuff from many people is certainly not worth it.

^ Thank you Oscar for the years of enjoyment you have have given us with this website, even though the NL developer apparently don't give a damn about what you've done to help line his pockets. For a long time, I always assumed he gave you the cold shoulder because of the WWS name. But now it's apparent he clearly has no understanding of the word 'gratitude'. While his talent for creating good software is unquestionable, he still comes off as a low life dick in my opinion. I personally will think twice before handing over any money to him again for NL2.

Anyway... just wanted to get that off my chest. Sorry to be off topic in this thread. By the way... the console looks way too expensive. I doubt you will get many buyers. Good luck with it though.

I knew starting this project for NL that this item more then likely would only market to the hardcore enthusiast, and the ride manufacturers. I sold three units, and have pre-orders for two more.

With the current outlook on the Nolimits product, I do not feel obligated to over extend myself to make this anymore then a collectors item. I have however taken the opportunity to patent the software, encoder, and keyboard module. I will not give OLE the opportunity to profit off of our idea.

What exactly does the DIY kit include?

I ask because I happen to have an 'old' control panel lying around here at home - featuring 1 estop, 2 illuminating cycle starts and 2 non-illuminating cycle stops. How would I go about making the panel connect with my PC...

Cheers!

It's cool I guess, but honestly who uses the self dispatch thing? I have never used that thing since the first day I got NL 6 years ago.

Thanks for the information Mikey, also forgot to ask - do you have an email address rather than the phone number on your website? (Easier as I'm UK based).

cool5 - Got the control panel as a present!
I can see this as potentially quite a cool project

Wow, i really wonder what all the fuss is about.... But i'd like to answer anyway....

1) Mikey, to be honest, i REALLY wonder who would pay that much for your product. I'd pay - at most - about 5?????????, which is about 7$. Considering that product, that limited use for it and that little end-market i sincerely invite you to PM me once you sold 10 (ten) of these consoles.

2) While i dont know about your communication with ole i do think he considered your product, or your product idea. There is no reason to be angry at him. If he came to a conclusion that's similar to my opinion posted above - Why should he bother spending hours of work working with you for the sake of your product?

3) To Oscar and to the rest of the ppl complaining: While i certainly have high respect for you and your will to maintain and to pay for this site, there's no reason to be mad at ole. Just to put things into perspective:
-There are HUNDREDS of forums dedicated to Microsoft Windows problems and how to deal with them. Does Microsoft pay for these forums?
-Same goes with basically anything. Do carmakers pay car-dedicated forums?

I simply see no point to be mad at Ole.

How did you ever get to that conclusion?

I agree with the points Hansixx made tbh.

1. I'm sure you will be delighted to here we have sold 7 out of the ten units. I am happy to report that they will be powering our clients technical displays at the IAAPA trade show in November.

2. We were prepared to offer compensation for any work, however were basically denied before we could even propose that. The rest was strictly a business decision to go ahead and patent the device and the software, like many of the products we develop we intend to protect our investment now and into the future.

I will say that I agree with Oscar reasonable belief that with out this site, No limits wouldn't be as popular as it today. The other "fan" forums you mention like for Microsoft, have an opportunity to break even on there operating cost by offering professional services or ads. With this sites user base that is obviously not possible.

3 reasons Matt.

#1 - A personal reason... Several years ago, on the coastersims forums, he called me an idiot (and that I was apparently too stupid to properly install software) because one of his NL updates refused to install on my PC. A little later, it turned out that his update conflicted with one of his co-developer's tools (Tia's Construction Kit). He never apologized after discovering this.

#2 - His cold shoulder to Vista users rubbed me the wrong way. I personally didn't have any problems with NL under Vista, but his attitude about it was tacky, in my opinion. Of course, it is his right to do whatever he wants with his software, but that doesn't mean I have to appreciate his decisions.

#3 - As already said before, his lack of acknowledgement for the success of his product being related to this site. This site is probably the largest promotor for his software. A simple public 'thank you' to Oscar would be awesome to see. Instead, he pubicly acknowledges another site's launch on his web page... as if there are no other options available to NL users. That is not a dig at the mentioned site. I signed up there a few weeks ago and it seems like a nice place, though maybe a little dead at the moment. In fact, my comments aren't anything to do with some of the site competition BS that goes around a lot in these types of online communities. I'm just saying it's kind of tacky is all. I've known Oscar for several years now, and I think he deserves more respect from the NL community than he gets.

To make a long story short though... Ole publicly calling me an idiot several years ago went a long way toward my feeling that he's nothing more than a low life dick.

If he doesn't plan on supporting Vista, then how does he plan on supporting 7.

>> If he doesn't plan on supporting Vista, then how does he plan on supporting 7.

For me it worked on Vista and Windows 7 flawlessly. The only difficulty I ever had to deal with was with the UAC (user account control). It did not allow NL to save screenshots. Changing the permissions of those folders solved the issue and I have not encountered anything wrong since.

Sounds impossible. The construction kit is a self contained package and should have zero effect on the installation of NL updates. I am not saying you are wrong, but I cannot see how the CK would have an effect. 7 years sounds a bit long to hold a grudge do you not think?

I do not think it is fair to say that. He has provided links to coastercrazy on the links page of both of the NL websites which both provide a bit of traffic.

>> I've known Oscar for several years now, and I think he deserves more respect from the NL community than he gets.

He is getting respect from the community. He has a bustling forum with 58 people currently browsing, thousands of uploads, exclusive coaster videos and dedicated members like you. They all do it for free, if that is not respect for Oscar and his website I am not sure what is.

This is my last reply to this thread.

NOT impossible, and many people had the problem. The construction kit had options that changed some of the NL registry settings. The problem is listed in the troubleshooting section at the NL website (KB0008). Oh, and I wouldn't say that I'm holding a grudge. I think it's more accurate to say that Ole showed a little of his personality to me that day. Calling a paying customer an idiot is not cool, no matter how anybody wants to look at it. While I have enjoyed his software... because it IS infact really nice software... I will think twice before paying him money again. Think about it Matt... If I was to call you an idiot for no good reason (and never apologize for it later even), what would you think? You can say what you want to say to hold your same position in this topic, but I bet you would still remember it 7 years from now. And I also bet you would think to yourself "Wow, the Kev dude is a real dick!".

This is my last reply to this thread.

Good idea. I believe I will do the same. My apologies to Mikey for temporarily taking over his thread.
