Question about Arrow Suspended Coasters

So,

Dcs and I are contemplating a question about Arrow Suspended (Swinging) coasters: Do these types of coasters eliminate lateral forces completely? It would seem so because the train, given its speed + the radius of the turn, would swing into the perfect position where there are no lateral forces being applied. It's another question of does this style of coaster have a heartline? I would assume, yes, and it's just an over exaggerated heartline, but at the same time I do not know. We were pondering if the oscillation of the train before it finds the 0 lateral spot would cause signifigant, or no lateral forces at all... If anybody has a clear answer on the subject, do tell.

there are small lateral forces. the ability for the car to swing create smooth transitions in a day when most arrow's had quick transitions.

In order to move sideways a lateral force would have to be present to overcome inertia. Your education system must be fantastic if this was even a debate.

Yeah any time the car isn't swinging there are zero lats, and that's it. If it's swinging, there are lats.

See those hydraulic pumps at the top of the car? Those stop the car from swinging side to side at high rates, because if they wernt there, the ride would have more lats than if the car didnt swing.

The swinging takes many of the lats out of the equation, but it surely doesn't eliminate them entirely. Even a zero-G roll has some lats, because the coaster is still changing it's rotational position. That said, the hydraulic pumps do not keep the lats down, the keep the swinging to a manageable level so that the car is not completely sideways and at a 90 degree angle. This, one could argue, would create lats because it's not allowing the car to swing as much as it could.

the suspended coaster i have been on goes past 90 degrees. not sure what youa re talking about

The track banks with the train swinging so the cars are never really "banked" at a position relative to the top of the track.

So then could you say that the banking of the car and the banking of the track are equal??

For the record, my position is there are laterals, especially due to the oscillations, and there is no heartlining going on.

I would say that there are lats, there's no question about that. But in the way that the car swings, is is quite unneccesary to heartline it. becuase the natural arc that the train would follow in its swing from side to side would account for any heartlining mistakes, this is because since riders are being pushed into the seat, and because it can swing, the point right underneath the riders, is the part with the most movement during the swing.

This in my opinion is a very good way to get rid of laterals compared to high grade Heartlining calculations of intamin and B&M.

I guess there would be a small amount of heartlining. Not because of the actual seats, but because of the wheel assembly that doesn't swing. Keeping the lats from that part of the car will reduce the stress or the track.

Yes there are lats while swinging. No, there are little laterals in the actual bank of the turn.

And no, no heartline.

As stated there are only small amounts of lats only because of the frictional forces that are attempting to stop what the car is naturally moving like, and the shock absorbers because they are trying to the swinging from being too dramatic.
