I've been experiencing this lately. When looking at a plain piece of track, I'll have an fps of say 24... Then when trying to ride a somewhat good fps ride, it'll drop to 2 and jump to 35, then 6, then 23, etc. Anyone know if it's my graphics card, or something else?

I also have experienced this recently, jumping from 60 to 3 or 4 or so and then back again. Never experienced it before now, but a couple of days ago it began doing it. Weird.

griffonluv - I have a couple broad solutions/answers to your problem, please read this large post as I have taken the time to write it. If none of these answers seem like they fix the real problem, maybe you should post some more details about this problem. Doing so I can probably come out with newer, better solutions. I'll check back with this thread for your response.

Initial Questions: What type of graphics card do you have? What type of CPU do you have? If you don't know either of those, how old is your computer?

Graphics (Most likely): If NoLimits was running fine before for you which I believe it was, then the first suggestion of mine would be to update the drivers for your graphics cards to the latest beta. If you don't know where to get that, tell me what card you have and your operating system and I will find it for you. Even if your graphics card was running NoLimits fine before, a recent Windows Update could have caused a compatibility issue of some kind. Updating to a new beta driver could fix the compatibility issue.

NoLimits (Less Likely): Maybe you just have your LOD/other graphics settings set to high..?

CPU (Least Likely): The only way I think something would be wrong here would be if the whole system has slowed down. Have you noticed performance issues in other applications? Have you done any work inside your computer case recently? If so your CPU might be a victim of static discharge. Hear static discharge > 6000 volts, See static discharge > 9000 volts, it can take as little as 100 volts to completely destroy a piece of hardware meaning you could have done damage even if you didn't see it or hear it while working inside the computer. It is possible to damage components with static discharge but not completely destroy is though. If that occurred, there would definitely be performance issues but your computer would still be able to run. Have you tinkered with bios settings at all? If so, maybe you have the voltage for your CPU set to high. That has the potential to damage the CPU just as much as static discharge. If either of these are the case, you will need to buy a new CPU. Damage to the CPU can simply not be undone.

^^I have no clue. And I was just making sure. haha

^I'm thinking it is my graphics card. It just recently has been ocurring. Everything else on the machine is generally fast. Ummm... I'm operating Vista and how can I tell what card I have? (I'm computer-retarded)

Yeah I'd say the driver is the safest bet, or some background process that was recently added that's pegging the CPU for some reason. Go Start > Run > DXDIAG > display tab and it will tell you what card you have. Then go to the manufacturers site and download the driver for it.

Thanks guys. I updated my graphics card and I'll see what happens for a little while.

The fps are a tad bit higher, but they are still really jumpy and inconsistent. Any ideas?

Use tack manager to see if the CPU usage is pegged.

It spiked at 92% somehow but stayed between 32%-39%

thatoneband777: Please explain my FAIL. I did say they were some pretty broad possibilities. However everything I listed is definitely possible in certain circumstances and are entirely fact based. I also did take into consideration and said that those particular CPU problems were the least likely, and that updating the drivers for the GPU would be the best thing. The statement you quoted is 100% true, just to inform you.

On top of that, "how sad is that. fail." is just flat-out harsh. I was just trying to help.
"oh but you may need to update your graphics card driver." I kind of already said that before you as well. I'm assuming you were just to busy being an ignoramus immature prick to notice.

griffonluv: When you say "spiked at 92%", was that when you opened NoLimits or were you in the middle of running it? Depending on your processor a spike to 92% (mostly ones with single cores) can be considered normal when simply opening applications. If you are saying this was in the middle, how long did it last? Just a second, or a few? What ever your answer is to that, at this point I would say to go into Event Viewer. It will list any recent problems, failures, and compatibility issues that it detects have occurred. If you find anything that looks like the problem in Event Viewer, please post the error code that is attached to it, or any information it gives you.

I had the NL sim running and opened task manager. It was in the beginning for about 2 seconds, then dropped to around 64% for a few more seconds, then dropped to the 30-40 range.

I'm not finding anything out of the ordinary in the Event Viewer. Hmmm...

How many cores does your processor have? If this is just with a single core processor, I would say nothing is unusual. If it is a dual or quad core, then I would say something is wrong here. Seems as if another piece of software is interacting with NoLimits. dj-dj has made an excellent example, what is your anti-virus/spyware/other software? As well, are you running multiple different programs for protection (excluding software suite that includes virus and spyware, I mean like two separate programs)? What was your operating system again? If it is Vista/Windows 7, your NoLimits files could be being indexed or defragged while you are using them. Virus/Spyware protection could also be scanning them to ensure that any unusual activities are not occurring while you are using them.

Try this to test to see if it is a Anti-Virus/Spyware program.
1. Disconnect from the Internet
2. Disable all Anti-Virus/Spyware programs
3. Run NoLimits
4. Analyze the results

Try this to check if NoLimits is being Indexed.
1. Locate your NoLimits Root Directory, EXAMPLE: (C:\Program Files (x86)\NoLimits Coasters v1.7)
2. Right-Click the Root Directory and select 'Properties'
3. Under the 'General' tab, click the button that says 'Advanced....'
4. Under 'Archive and Index attributes', check to make sure that the check box next to 'Allow files in this folder...in addition to file properties' is un-checked.

My issue was caused by the latest update of AVG, and or the latest update to Windows 7. After upgrading to the latest driver from Nvidia, and turning off AVG scanning my issue went away.

I've had the same problem and I just updated to Windows 7 so it's something to do with that I believe.

When or if Ole comes out with a NL 1.72 or 1.8 I'm sure that will be fixed.

^ He's not complaining. And it's clearly something about his computer acting in an un-normal fashion and there for he asking what may be up with his computer. He, unlike you, doesn't have an obvious poop computer and wants to know what's up with his. So get off his case.

I have had this problem with my sim too. It started acting up when I had Vista though, I now have 7 and it's slightly better. But yeah, hopefully something in this topic will help me out! Thanks guys, I'll get back to possibly ask questions about my computer running NL.

Ever tried putting your detail and quality much lower? Also a lower screen resolution would help too.

Actually when I'm thinking about it, why do you even have NL on a computer with 5 fps? When you have an other computer where it runs better on...

I have a problem with fps too. When I look at the track the fps is from 0-5 when I look somewhere else the fps is from 90-100. The problem has started after I reinstalled Windows 7(It worked fine before reinstall).
Thank you, for any responses!
