TBH I really kinda wish I had Nvidia in here. The ATI drivers are still inferior. However, when I put this together, the best NVidia cost almost as much as the dual 4870s, while not being close performance wise. Plus I have the dual card, so I actually can add crossfire and be running quad 4870s... haven't felt the need as of yet, haven't run into anything where the GPU is really the limiting factor. Actually tend to get worse frame rates with older games, since they were often only written to use a single core.

Have those of you with Vista having exporting problems tried turning off UAC, running Newton as admin, and/or giving it permissions to write files?

Entropy did an incredible job creating the software, it truly is amazing. That said, there really is no support at the time. You can hope that someone makes some youtube videos. Try looking at the videos he has posted on youtube, and used that as a basis for experimenting - that's probably the best way to use this program.

You might also look here. It's a series of tutorials created from the old version, so not everything applies, but much of it still does.

I just downloaded Newton 2 on my duel booted Macbook pro installed with XP. The program ran fine until I wanted to make a multi-zone force section. The lateral G sections work just fine, but when I want to edit the roll or vertical G's, no matter how many sections with different settings I have, it edits the whole MZF section as if it's one force change. Is there a way to fix this?

EDIT: Nevermind. Learn from my experience, and don't post when you need sleep. I just read 2 things wrong... and that fixed everything. Sorry for the post, especially on a semi-dead topic.

Newton 2 was up all this time and I didn't know about it?! I guess that's what I get for not visiting this site for 3 months.

Wasn't sure if I should create a new topic or not.. I wanted to let the author of this software know of a bug I've found. Vertical 'Straight Geometry" is invisible.

^Invisible sections are usually an indicator of the coaster stalling at some point.

Jms10391: Are you positive the segment is perfectly vertical, not something like 89.999 degrees?

Entropy: I'm not entirely sure about that, as it would not be possible for it to stall. The train is being powered over these sections. All segments in that picture have a forced exit speed of 5 mph, approx: 2.234 m/s (for it to be a chain lift). If I change the angle of it to 89 or 91 degrees the track becomes visible again.

Wow this program looks awesome, so sad it doesn't work with Crossover Games for Mac. Or does it work with the normal Crossover?
Until then I'll stick to handbuilding.

^ I doubt it'll work since .net framework isn't supported on OSX. Why don't you just install Windows with Parallels or Bootcamp?

Its really weird. When i exported a track and rode it, it had -1g on a hill that was supposed to have -.1 when it is in newton. And it was in the middle of the train.

Either your speed or your friction is most likely causing that issue Kyle. That, or you accidentally typed in -1 instead of -.1.

I'm going to try Newt2 again. However, I don't know how to convert mph to km/h or feet to meters.

Can someone give me the numbers or instructions on how to convert those, please? What I mean by numbers is, say I need 56ft converted to meters, what number do times/divide by or what have you?

Thanks.

it has a built in converter. open it by clicking the box icon with the two arrows in it.
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.

Lol silly, newton2 comes with an in-software calculator. it has a speed converter, station length, meters to feet, etc. On the same area wehre you find the left, front, top view and the display options and the undo/redo you'll find a picture of a box with arrows pointing in opposite directions. Click on it and a small window should open up. That's the conversion panel.

EDIT: Damn Slosprint beat me [pdie]
