This coaster will be a new breed of a S&S Thrust Air 2000 (in this case Thrust Steam 2000 [;)])and a launched woodie. The launch will be powered by a combination of the S&S launch system and a steam engine.
Tell me what you think about it.Here are some pics.

All RCCAs should be RMC'd. And that event shall be henceforth known as the Rollercaust.

Why not? Steam is surprisingly powerful. Why couldn't it launch a roller coaster?

Steam is used on big aircraft carriers in the ocean to launch planes off of them. Of course it could be strong enough. The only two issue I can see is first, the wooden design. Yes, in all reality it could be possible if done right but it simply is not practical. This same design would be much cheaper to build if it were a steel coaster, and for that reason ANY park would choose steel over wood in this scenario. The second thing I would like to mention is that using steam would be very very loud. Loud enough to cause deafness to passengers, and possibly damage the ears of other guests nearby. I suppose you could find a way to dampen the noise level, but I really am not sure.

cp-soad makes a good point. I say come up with a new, novel launching system that is silent and uses very little power!

Aren't fighters hydraulically launched?

Just make sure it has a good layout. From what I see, it looks like RCCA....

What is the thing on the ground in the backround right?
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.

While i think steam is a GREAT idea, it might not be the best on land. I think the aquatic aircraft carriers used steam is because there surrounded by water, so theyll never run out. The water bill for your park could be very high depending on how much power this thing will use.

As for the launched woodie, i think its great to finally see one around.

Aircraft carriers use steam launch because they're steam powered themselves - Nuclear heated steam. It's not the water that's the issue, it's getting enough steam generated to provide launch power in a 2 minute cycle time.

Steam powered is feasible, but the fuel costs would be high as it involves heating water. Hydraulic is supposed to be cheaper than a chain drive, as all it involves is a relatively small pump, while the major work is done by the accumulators.
