I'm not sure if anyone has really noticed how little I've been on this site over the last 2 months, but in any case, here is the bad news:

My computer's hard drive basically self-destructed at the beginning of January, and unfortunately, I did not have a single one of my in-progress coasters backed up, aside from "Cataclysm 2" which I had luckily sent off for test-riding.

So that means that I have basically lost a good three years of work on all of my Hard Hat projects. Hundreds of hours of track work, object creation, and three near-finished coasters all went down the drain. So, basically, this is a post to let everyone know that all of my previous coaster projects are officially canceled, specifically my in-progress-forever mega-projects "Lava Blast" and "The Rockler 2." Plus I also lost my near-complete Intamin rocket "Rage," my also nearly-complete hypothetical entry to the Coaster War contest, and at least 5 other coasters from the Adrenaline Land project and other half-complete ones that I was planning on finishing.

So, yeah, pretty much I'm just sharing my own disappointment. This sucks, and I feel like an idiot.

A Macbook? I know 3 people with a Macbook that had their harddrive die within 4 hours of ownership.

EDIT: Hours should be years, I was distracted when writing this.

Nope, it's not. It's a Compaq 6715b, which is usually one of the most reliable business notebooks out there, which is why I wasn't prepared for it to crash like it did.

Too bad to hear that CJD. I know how much it sucks to lose hard work. (I had the same problem a couple years ago... Luckily half of my stuff was backed up.)

Good luck at your new projects. And hopefully you've learned from this mistake. Backup your rides every once in a while!

Serious bummer. I had a drive die and take more than a year of my life with it a log time ago...

Now I have an inexpensive 120gb usb drive I carry around with me and backup my Lenovo with, though it's been a rock-solid workhorse. At home the media server has a 1tb external drive the portable drive gets synced to once a week. When we leave the house for more than a day the terabyte drive get's moved to a very safe place.

Sounds paranoid, but if I loose all the families digital photos my wife will do things to me that Clive Barker would find disturbing.
Be sure you're not looking in a mirror before you start pointing fingers.

For those who lack a sense of humor and general intelligence, yes that's what I was saying.

Well his tracks were some of the most over-hyped things I have ever seen in my life. They were like the precursor to the emo tracks.

Meh... whatever. Don't worry about it. I just don't care anymore. If I make any more tracks, they will just be for my own amusement, and not to be the "Best thing ever, OMG! Please give me a 10!"

Sorry to hear you lost all those tracks cjd. I had a hard drive go out on me but that was a long time ago and I didn't have anything important on it. I always back up my tracks on a CD. I don't trust hard drive backups or those new USB media chips. They say the life of a hard drive is only 5 years if your lucky. Hang in there!

I'd had this web site's hard drive go out on me! I should do a backup, I can't remember where I left the latest one.

I would attempt to translate except it would come out like this:
