alton towers trip report, 21/03/2010

what a fun and fantastic day had by all. there was some failures, some laughs and some foolery.

the start of the day i meet gouldy and linny at the front gates and we headed in and renewed our anual passes. there blue and sparkly this year.
we walked around to sonic spinball, the new colours very much suit it and make it far more photographic and as usual its alot of fun.
we then headed to the dark forest. the new themeing of the whole are is fantastic. trees everywhere as you'll see in the photos to come. first was th13teen and what a big dissapointment. the whole coaster was glass smooth and perfectally silent. the themeing was fantastic but the drop in the crypt didnt have any force to it and by the time you realised it had dropped you were ready to fly out of it backwards. all in all th13teen would make a great family coaster but the very detailed themeing for thrill pulls it out of that and the whole ride sorta floats in limbo between family and scare. (phyco coaster yeah right)
then we meet with steve and the rest of the gang and did it again. lots more of the usual to follow, rita, nemy, oblivion, charlie and the chocolate factory, duel.
the new ben and jerrys ice cream palour outside the flume is wicked, if you go i strongly advise you to get a sundae from there.
anyway im shure not many of you will read this bit and would like to see a whole load of piccys, so please enjoy




the first thing you get met with, a great big purplr pair of corkscrews


so good to be back in the towers grounds, there still as beautiful as they always were


one of the hundreds of refrences to sonic the hedehog, not so many to amy, tails and Dr robotnik


always a fun element on spinball


battle galleons is still an stupid ride but very will themed


if you go down to the woods today you'd better not go alone


its still rita but not it has an awful voice to launch you, "you've got to escape go go go"


wraths dont like small vans, please not this in future


quick climb up after the terrorable heartlining


rita is still the same colour but they havent cleaned it over the winter and its very dirty, it very much adds to the ride


the trains have had a very slight simple paint job but it really adds to the area well

and themed shops too


she is very pretty when she has gone goth


the entrance to th13teen's very very very long que line.

more of the awsome van themeing, note the drag marks in the mud from the tires, lots and lots of small details

they deserve love too, being a warth can be so lonely

the best ride at alton towers if you want to see boobies jiggleing


they even have tarts dacing in the windows, or are they willy wonkas henchmen

and yes its extreamly tasty


runaway mine train is just plain fun as usual


the new star attraction of alton towers, these were better than th13teen, i kid you not

new colours are so hot


the towers are still one of my scary'est places on earth, really they are


prifari awsomeness but still not as good as squirril nutty but did produce more lats than th13teen


starting to get all artsy with piccys, ohh coaster shot at an angle


the hairpin is still a very cool element, again look at how those new colours stand out


the colours are louder than th13teen, really they are.


the most neglected area of alton towers


oblivion is still a cool ride worthy of recogniton though


but as usual theres never a que for it.


back to the forest for some tormented treats


pretty new rita control box


the trains almost blend into the trees


the trains even look like big kiddie coaster cars but they are very comfortable, single lap bar


attention to detail is superb.


and the name alton towers is in the old font too, again such detail in the whole of the ride


the new paint scheme even make rita look alot meaner


look empty cars


see mikey, nothing wrong with tire lift hills, there quiet and not one problem were as rita broke down a few times we seen


the go light need some themeing though


but those trees do seem to be able to get anywhere they wish


but this is where the fun is at and has been for the last 12 years


i probally have and you will have probally seen a million photos of this so heres another


the vertical loop is still a very fun element


i love this dive, its small but it packs a punch into the final corkscrew

no gouldy, please god no gouldy. we dont want to see the twins


while on blade this random cat just seemed to appear from somewhere

overall the day was a very good day round the towers, the ques were short, the rides ran well, it was sunny, we found out willy wonka is very excited about the nut room and we all got a new coaster for our coaster count. it was just a shame it was oviously not finished so hopefully when all the themeing is working correctally it will be a hell of alot better.

next up, thorpe park next month, date to be decided yet

might not be even gettin to thorpe park for the next trip, who knows, money's always an issue, if i get this new job though i should have some money for it

It's been far too long since i attended, but as soon as i start getting some real money in im up for anything and everything.

well, you might have to wait for video evidence of that. But I have to tell you it had been raining, although it wasn't raining at the time, the ground was wet everywhere and there was drops off water hanging off most things, including the coasters and therefore the tyres on the tyre lift also... I'm assuming. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that it wasn't dry when we rode it in the morning.

The park can't have been that busy if you were able to ride Squirrel Nutty!
What was your full ride list? How were the queue times?

Considering it was the second day of the season, there was a new coaster and it was a weekend, the park was pretty empty. The longest we queued was for our first ride on Th13teen and that was before the park opened to the GP! After that most stuff had pretty short queues and after about 3pm, everything was walk on.

I'm going again on Wednesday, so I'm presuming the queues will be even shorter then and the same for you on Friday.

Give the tires a chance to break in a bit and for maintenance to lube everything...

between us all with the only exception is me not on blade, gouldy no on the nutty and adguy on th13teen once that would be it.
i would say the ques will be very very small this week then picking up next as it gets closer to easter

BTW why are my trip reports not good enough to go on the front page?

Im going to Thorpe Park tomorrow. It will be quiet, being a weekday and close to Easter but do you reckon they will close the high cost running rides.
I promised i'de take my family to Thorpe because last time they went there was only detonator and tidal wave there and it was awful so i dont wanna let them down by Stealth being shut etc.
What you reckon?

Went on a quiet day twice before and Stealth was mysterious closed down. And Dragon2000 arnt the long haired dude who we saw at Thorpe Park that day, i cant remember?
