Srsly?
First the Digital Economy Bill and now a remixed Eiffel Tower...
What are your thoughts?
I personally think it just looks like a waste of money and materials.

I think its polarising,on the one side its f-ugly,on the other it has an special elegance.Well but I think it is wasted money in this times;we don't need this now!
All RCCAs should be RMC'd. And that event shall be henceforth known as the Rollercaust.
It looks like they wanted to make a really cool el-loco-ish roller coaster, then realized the g's would be too high and settled for an abstract sculpture
I can't see how it is privately funded myself, it must fall down to tax payers in some form as no one would publicly admit to buying that. I think after the birds nest stadium this is our way of having something abstract and interesting to look at without the grandure. Being English in some form I have to defend it, it is ours and will be a constant reminder to the fact that we hosted the olympics. This to me is just another part of the heritage we have and makes us proud to be English.
In all fairness, the whole olympic area looks a bit poop. This is like the cherry on top. There is only one nice building in the whole plan and it's the aquatics centre, everything else is really bog standard or just plain rubbish.
I'm very interested in civil engineering and construction, especially from a design standpoint, so I had been watching very closely on the engieering forums I also post on, and as I looked at each part of the plans as they came out and then were subsequently changed because we're in recession, I got more and more disappointed.
I saw this tower last week sometime, on the engineering forums I was talking about, and basically everyone's response was the same; bollocks. I very much wish I was part of the design and management team responsible for the Olympic project, because I like to think that if I was given 10 minutes and some biscuits, I would have arrived at a design that was much less of an eyesore and probably more cost effective.
The London Olympics will be wank and everyone knows it.
EDIT: I just watched the video and all i can say is; Boris Johnson is so embarrassing. It makes me laugh to wonder how he has even managed to survive for this long, let alone become mayor of London.
I think it looks beautiful. Anish Kapoor is an awesome artist, i've always admired his work. The thing with his work is, it always looks weird and pointless until you visit it in person, and then it has a totally different effect when you can see it first hand. Even his smaller works are exactly the same, if you saw a photo of it, you would be like WTF, but stand next to it, and you are drawn in, and the work becomes much more inspiring and elegant in its own individual way.
London is a city of modern art. And this is just another piece that adds to an extremely exciting city, from a modern art lovers perspective. So while it may not be to everyones taste, as it is privately funded, whats the problem? Art is there to be talked about, and to question, and that is obviously what this is doing, so therefore it is a success IMO.
i can't believe i'm saying this but... i agree with Jpecool. i really quite like it. i don't think it should be red, but i like the way that (and call me artsy fartsy) that it squiggles. it's like tendrils. or... vomit.
whatever, point is, it looks nice but... for that amount of money, even if it IS privately funded? i'd much rather it went towards having a schooling system that isn't utter wank.
