A small theme park is looking for a thrilling, unique coaster to add to its woodie and SLC, but only has a tiny space available: a 100 ft by 300 ft plot of flat, empty land surrounded by walkways. Your challenge is to build the best coaster you can in this space.

The deadline for submission is May 31st. This gives you over a month to build something.

Download the template here:
http://www.coastercrazy.com/track_excha ... ?tid=16831

Submissions must be uploaded as either nltrack or nlpack files, and it must be stated clearly in the track name that your track is for this contest.

There are no prizes. However, I will select first, second, and third place winners, and name them in my signature for at least one month.

Rules:

1. Measurements to ensure that the track stays inside the height, length, and width limits will use english units. Before submitting, check that your track complies using english units.
2.Any track style can be used, including wooden coasters.
All track and supports must fit within a 100 ft by 300 ft rectangle. This includes footers but does not include station buildings, fences, and lines.
3.Track vertices may not exceed 100 feet in height, but supports may.
4. The track must include at least one inversion (defined as any point where track banking exceeds 155 degrees), unless it is a wooden coaster or hybrid.
5. The track may include lift hills, launches, or any combination of the above, with any speed.
6. The station must be between 2.5 and 10 feet in height, and may not exceed 10 feet from the edges of the template.
7. 3ds are permitted, as is tree addition. Terraforming is not permitted.
8. Failure to comply with the above rules will result in disqualification.

Ratings:

Technical score: 1 to 10 points, including:

Track smoothness: Up to 2 points.
Support quality and structural integrity: Up to 4 points.
Safety of g-forces: Up to 2 points. If vertical Gs remain between -1.5 and 4.5, and lateral Gs remain between -1.5 and 1.5, a score of 2 will be given. If vertical forces remain between -2 and 5, and lateral Gs remain between -2 and 2, a score from .5 to 1.5 will be given. If forces exceed these ranges, a score of 0 to 0.25 will be given. Forces will be tested in front and back seats on both sides of the train, ridden at 25% speeds.
Tunnel test: 0 points for a failure, 1 point for a pass. Tunnel intersections of tracks on the same block, or otherwise where riders could not reasonable come into contact with track, supports, or other riders, as judged by me, are permissible.
E-stop: 0 points for a failure, 1 point for a pass.

Adrenaline: Up to 10 points. Remember, I like airtime, inversions, and fast pacing. I do not like loss of pacing towards the end of a ride, faux airtime hills, or painfully high forces.

Originality: Up to 10 points. I will not rate based on accuracy to manufacturer style. I will rate based on original layouts and elements.

What will you do on e-stop in the case of a launch?
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.

@slosprint: I will press e-stop immediately after the train clears the launch. If it crashes, that's a failure. If it doesn't crash, then I know that there wouldn't be a crash in the event of a stop during the launch.

Am I allowed to insert X-Force into this template? Haha.

Unfortunately no, for two reasons: First, it would be unfair for you to just upload an existing track, and second, because X-Force is 15 feet taller than the contest rules allow. Sorry.

However, I would love to see an entry from you after seeing your NLT entries.

I'm in, alltho i'm not satisfied with this one:

ridden at 25% speeds.

At 25% speed, the G-force rating can be jumpy since it's showing the direct forces. So all shocks included. Therefore, I recommend testing at 50%. Where the G-forces don't jump (as often as with 25%) because of the shocks.

Question:
6. The station must be between 2.5 and 10 feet in height, and may not exceed 10 feet from the edges of the template.

I assume that's the track? If so, from what point is this measured?

Will the tracks be anonymous or are we allowed to discuss what we are doing?

I was joking about the X-Force thing, lol.
And, I may give a go at it, depends on what I get done with my round3 ride and when. I always love me a compact ride.

Can we have more than 1 entry? I was building a coaster beforehand that fits the template.

^ that might be unfair, seeing as:
A: your coaster is already started, thereby giving you extra time.
B: you might not want to do it because one well thought out coaster is better than 2 coasters rushed to meet the deadline.

It is in fact the track. Height is measured from the zero point in the editor. As I mentioned, Terraforming is not allowed, so ground height is irrelevant.

By the way, Shuttle coasters are allowed.

Edit: @slosprint: Unfortunately, this is an unofficial contest, and so I don't really have a means of judging anonymously. Tracks should just be posted to the exchange.

Hello for all...

Well, I'd like to give a try. If I have some time between my school and this, it would be my very first competition track, the idea is tempting... (Oh, and I think it would be my first track on this site?)

Well, happy building! :D
